GR Yaris What did you do to your GR Yaris today?

I fitted the hardrace one and it rattled my fillings out.
Even the tailgate was rattling on idle.

Removed it straight away and now have the yellow Powerflex fitted.

👍🏼
It actually needs a bit of running in. But it does make the car vibrate, especially on startups.
While on the highway at 3000 rpm for example nothing rattles at all though.

Hi Mark,

Good write up on your other thread by the way.

So you fitted a whole new torque mount initially but put the OEM one back and now have the yellow insert in it instead?

How is it? Is the gear change better?

Thanks John,

Yes that’s correct, I have the yellow insert in at the moment and that is a definite improvement over standard with zero added NVH.
I still think there is room for improvement though regarding engine movement.
I’m currently considering the Pumaspeed torque mount with the soft bushing, I have heard that is a good compromise.

🤷‍♂️😉👍🏼🤷‍♂️
Interesting post. I fitted the Airtech yellow. Definite improvements but also an increase in low rpm vibrations etc. I was thinking of going to the yellow insert you mentioned, but after a while the added nvh becomes ok ish.

One or two had said the Airtech yellow was a little harsh so initially I chose the Hardrace mount because of it’s low shore hardness of 50A, unfortunately that was horrible, the vibration through the clutch pedal was unbearable.
I think the benefits of your Airtech would be better than the Powerflex yellow insert if you can live with the added NVH.

It seems the DNA or Pumaspeed road version replacement mounts are better suited to a daily driver and I will go with one of those at some point.

I honestly don't quite agree with your assessment, I know this is personal preference though.
The hardrace mount needs a bit of breaking in and is very harsh in the beginning. After 500-1000 KM done it started getting noticeable more compliant. Of course the car still vibrates on startup and if you're in the wrong RPM range but outside of that there isn't even really a noticeable increase in NVH while driving at all.
I can't really imagine a Polyurethane based torque mount being more compliant actually, I'm happy to be proven wrong though.
All in all I can definitely recommend the Hardrace part, especially for cars that are more geared towards weekend enjoyment vs. daily driving.

Airtec may have revised their yellow mount at some point to address excessive NVH.

DNA Racing Fast Road has my vote for a daily.

Enjoyed showing a bunch of Dutch tourists in M4, 911, Alpine, GT-R etc. the way down some of my favourite local roads.

Just luck that I turned out of my house in front of them, and their route was well planned as it went the way I was going for 15 km or so. Either that or they just fancied following me.

I did have to slow down to let them catch up at points, but that’s maybe just home advantage 😁

OH HEY! Its me that makes those, hope you like it! I'm glad it got there in 1 piece!

Feel free to send me a pic when you have installed it :)

Here it is 🤩 almost in disguise when black-on-black. (I let the GRFour badge stay though)
Thank you 👋🏻😊

Realized I have friends living not too far from where the envelope was sent from in NZ.. small world 😊

I had the lower torque mount insert fitted (yellow powerflex) and it has made a huge difference to both pick up and gear change. I didn't get to see the condition of my mount but I can definitely recommend it as a very cheap upgrade that makes a huge difference

There is less rattle from the engine at idle and the car seams to lurch less as you change gears. They are also a lot smoother.

Also accidentally bought a HKS legamax exhaust whoops! Ben at String Theory in Stratford upon Avon also switched off the fake noise.

The exhaust is excellent and not very loud. I can also feel a difference is general responsivness when driving.

Silly question but by the lack of lurch when changing gears, do you feel it’s a smoother drive all around?

My OH gets travel sickness easily (promise it’s not my poor driving) and sometimes the gear changes can be quite rough, but the main thing for her is if we are on the motorway and you let off the throttle to slow slightly (eg car pulls infront of you) then accelerate again shortly after. It’s the cumulative rocking of that which seems to trigger it (not as bad in other cars), so wondering if a smoother pick up would help.

Managed to get my collision avoidance to fail - warning on dash - it happened as I enthusiastically took a left turn past a car waiting to exit the junction (plenty of room) cleared next time I restarted.

My OH is exactly the same, she hates it and I'm sure it's all the movement. I can honestly say that it has made a big difference and all that lurching whilst changing gear is gone, I can also confidentally change gear mid corner too as the car moves a lot less coming off the throttle.

The mod is one of the cheapest you can do so it's worth a try as it's designed specifically to reduce the forwards and backward rocking of the engine.

Amazing thanks. I think that it’ll be worth a go and if not then you get the other benefits too. Was it done at String Theory too?
