I recently posted a wanted ad for some TE37 wheels and was DM'd by a new member saying,

"You must've missed the post of louis09 about TE37 wheels for sale some days ago...I asked him about it and he said it's still available with him. Here's his email ***********@gmail.com" (this website won't allow me to include the actual email)

I didn't think anything of it, so emailed the guy, who said he was in Northern Ireland and he wanted £3200 for them. He also provided some pictures. I went back to the 'member' and messaged him saying I couldn't find the post he was referring to from louis09, or indeed his profile. Could he send me a link to it? I didn't get a reply and the original message then completely disappeared from my inbox. Obviously I smelt a rat, so did some digging and can see that this exact same message (You must've missed the post of louis09 etc) via a forum has been used a number of times before in scams.

Be vigilant people - they're scanning these wanted ads!

Good you were so vigilant, it’s so easy to get caught out by scammers these days.
Thanks for sharing.

The problem with banning the member is that they probably won't use the same name twice. Mine was from looliuk87 for what it's worth.

I'd be wary of any new member in these situations.

The forum software is quite sophisticated and recognises common email addresses and IP addresses that have previously been banned or flagged as spam and can refer to mods or ban automatically. 💥
