GR86 Electric Blue #2

I've yet to install mine, hoping to do it tomorrow.

But I think it would look really good with a black duckbill spoiler piece as well. Thoughts?

Happy with that combo on my pearl white. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Aero cover on - nice but not essential in my opinion.
What happens with water falling off the back of the boot lid when opening the boot? It should fall in that gap and lead to drain holes on both sides, does it still do that with the cover on?

Good question! I think it will as the aero cover sits in front of the boot lid, but next time I open the boot when it's wet I'll let you know!

Looking forward seeing it on the car, and hearing what it sounds like.

Where is the GPF fitted? Does this get rid of it? Never had a car with GPF before so ignorant as to how it works

I'm pretty sure that's not the GPF. That's a resonator...it was in the same position on the GT86. If you're referring to that little box just before the join, that is.

You're right, according to the schematics it's the "sub muffler" and also present on US models, sorry for the confusion. At least we know the GPF is not removed by a catback, it couldn't have passed EU approval if it would.

*d is the GPF:

So, if we wanted to stay mot compliant we can't remove any of the cats nor the GPF. So manifolds need to be catted and no chance of front pipe replacement. Is there such a thing as a High flow GPF. Sorry, I am cluttering your thread!!

No worries, you may get a better reply in the exhaust thread, but from my experience running a couple of Skylines with no cat it's all possible just about how much effort and expense you want to go to.

I think we are all hoping the available solutions will do the job without further surgery, I certainly am! ๐Ÿคž

Well my APEXi N1-X Evolution Extreme is installed.

Install was straightforward with trolley jack and stands.

Here are the figures:

So you may look at this and think the increase is weedy - 13-16% average across idle and revving. but this doesn't tell the story - this is sound pressure only.

My overall impressions are that it is not only louder but deeper and more interesting - the standard tone is flat and tinny - this is warm, rounded and bassy.

However as you may see from the data this doesn't really translate into the cabin - you hear the tone difference in the cabin - but not increased noise - which is really the point of this exhaust.

Have only been out for a short run so will share other thoughts as I use it more.

If you want your flat four to sound like a V8, and you like headaches please look elsewhere, however if you want your GR86 to actually sound like a sports car I think it's perfect.

P.S For those curious about the GPF effect - i think it's minimal as my figures closely match those recorded in the US on this excellent review video:

Let me know you think!

Just a note on the % difference for noise figures.

Decibels are measured on a logarithmic scale, so any increase of 10 dB results in roughly double the perceived loudness increase.

Would you say the noise inside the cabin is enhanced with the new exhaust, despite being the same in volume?

Didn't appreciate that thanks - I wouldn't say it seems twice as loud overall to me.

The cabin noise is enhanced at certain RPMs but not much as I'm used to with aftermarket, you hear it at low and high RPM, less so mid I assume to enable cruising without drone.

It's more about the warm, rounded and bassy notes here for sure.
