GR86 GR86 Delivery Tracking and Collection thread

Collected mine today. So pleased, and I'm glad I got the spoiler added too.

Only issue I had on pickup was the washer jets were frozen so couldn't clear the screen. The dealer took the car into the workshop for a bit to warm up and was fine for the 100 mile drive home after.

Did have to stop a driving school car trying to reverse park right in front of it at the services though (sods law isn't it).

It already feels a step up from the gt86, and I concur with most of the other remarks about it on here so not much to add. I did keep opening the centre console accidentally though, must have those blasted pointy elbows... [emoji16].

Leaving the wrapping on until it gets to detailer, looking forward to giving it the 'beans... [emoji6]' once run in too!

I've noticed on most of the videos of test drives on line people seem to be popping the centre console on a regular basis, hopefully there will be a workaround other
than filing down our elbows!

It didn't happen at all on my test drive and I definitely used the armrest.

I opened it once to place the car key, fine after that.

Eventually happened, car collected this morning absolutely over the moon (even if the handover in a building site was less than ideal) feels like a cayman with the weight over the front instead. Very glad with Silver as well, now to put as many miles on as possible this weekend!

Late pictures and thoughts from my collection on Thursday. Sorry about the mediocre quality, I was too excited (and cold!) to really pay attention to what I was doing. Prepare for a wall of text or ignore and criticise the photos instead!

A few points on the collection that may be of interest:

• Dealer was initially instructed to not to wash the car and leave the stickers on, but I changed my mind about the stickers and asked them to rinse it down (touchless wash only), as the weather took a turn for the worse and I wanted to inspect the paintwork right away. Sticker residue wasn't too bad and the car was a lot cleaner than expected, with no visible scratches.
• Plates were stuck on as instructed.
• Dealer writing comes off the windscreen easily with some isopropyl alcohol and paper towels.
• I didn't get an Issho or the bamboo key box (managed to get those for less than £6 on ebay) but got a Toyota travel mug from the dealer instead.
• The car came with a full tank of fuel (didn't ask what grade, but it matters little at this stage), which was a nice surprise.
• Only 9 miles on the clock at the point of collection.
• TPMS light on and no tyre pressures showing - appears to be a common issue with these cars. Will be sorting these today with a new tyre pressure inflator, as all standalone ones at local petrol stations are shut!
• Collection took absolute ages (well over 1h), despite payment, insurance and registration being sorted out days prior to Thursday. This was due to me waiting for the dealer and them having to figure out how the new online handover works, including having to take a lot of details and pictures of the car. It did give me the chance to inspect the car and play with the settings whilst waiting though.
• I stalled on the first exit out of the dealership and did an unintentional power slide on the first roundabout. In my defence my last car was a ZF8 automatic BMW, so had to re-learn how to drive a sensitive manual again and I didn't get to test drive beforehand.
• Mud flaps on back order, so your dealer might have been right about the Feb availability @KobayashiMaru86.
• My dealer couldn't find the electric blue duckbill spoiler on the parts list, but I'll be ordering it when they find the right part.

Thoughts on the car:

• The electric blue is stunning in any light and makes the car feel that much more special, very happy with my choice.
• Yes, the car has the (now infamous) dimples in the rear bumper, all but two are covered by the license plate though.
• Visbility is great so I've not missed front parking sensors yet and the camera does a good job even at night time.
• The head unit is the LHD version with the Volume button on the left, but it matches the manual.
• Android Auto works very well with the head unit.
• Getting used to the clutch after a couple of days, although pulling away smoothly and 1-2 gear changes are still somewhat challenging.
• NVH was lesser than expected from a sports car.
• Sound quality from the standard audio is... OK. I expected it to be the bit worse, and it's definitely not my top priority to be replaced.
• Engine and exhaust are disappointingly quiet at under 4k rpm, so an aftermarket exhaust might be on my shopping list next year.
• Car handled better than anticipated in icy conditions (but I've had RWD experience in adverse weather).

To do over the next week:

• Re-adjust the tyre pressures and reset TPMS.
• Wash and seal the car. Last day of freezing weather, so it's just a matter of waiting for a dry day now.
• Replace interior and external halogen bulbs with LED ones (purchased two sets from Aliexpress for less than £10).
• Replace the wipers with some quality Bosch ones (the stock ones are rubbish).

Sure.

They're Auxito T10 and T15 LED lights that were recommended by someone on the GR86.org forum, except I got them from Aliexpress a few weeks ago rather than via a reseller on Amazon/Ebay where they can be bought for a premium from.

T10 are a replacement for the overhead interior, boot and door lights:

Really great to see plenty of comrades picking their cars up this weekend - I'm thoroughly enjoying seeing all the pics and reading your reflections.

(Partner has just looked over my shoulder and tutted and made some comment about me being on this site again and said that I'll have "nothing to do" when I've finally got my car - *checks over shoulder* yes I bloody will love, I'll be out powersliding around roundabouts rather than sat in here listening to you *checks over shoulder again for safety purposes*)

Hi, after using the forum for a wealth of knowledge as well as sharing the pain of delivery delays, I thought I would say hi as the soon to be new owner of a white manual.

The car arrived (frozen) yesterday so it was an emotional first meeting given she has been tracked for most of this year. I am really glad I went for white too. The dealer has been great, even fitting the ducktail and aero cover today as well as getting the PDI done. Rear sensors to be fitted next week and then kept away from the worst Winter weather until a full paint correction and PPF in Jan. I was surprised how clean it seemed given the Derby holiday.

She will be joining an eclectic mix and the S2000 will be going. It's my first new Toyota having had mk4 UK Supras auto and manual as well as old BMWs. I've followed the GR86's birth over the last 2 years and loved the test drive so looking forward to enjoying her in the better weather.

We all know what a GR86 looks like by now but no harm in a few more self indulgent pics especially as I have been amusing myself with photo editing apps to picture her in the garage . Not many more mods planned, I've for the auto dimming rear view mirror to fit and the GR shift knob although the monoblock brakes and TRD 19" wheels are tempting but I keep repeating "no" every 30 mins to prevent such thoughts getting traction

To confirm I have 2 love dimples in the rear bumper (impressions which have paint over). And right hand volume control

840 yes thanks.

3000GT was my dream car as a child and one of the few cars I've owned that has not disappointed. It spent most of it life under one mature owner but then had a few owners in quick succession who left a number of small snags grow. Long story short when I got it 3 years ago, it spent 2 months at a Mitsubishi dealer going through it and getting everything sorted. Not cheap but they have been excellent. It's also had a full paint job and other fettling. It's genuinely a lovely car to drive especially with 4wd
