GR Yaris Alignment, Camber and handling related talks

Lo
I am going to get some camber bolts to add some negative camber to my Yaris and then pay a visit to AW Motorworks to get the geo set up properly. I have standard suspension so it sits at stock height.

I am aiming to get something like 2.5 to 3 degrees on the front and about 2 degrees on the back.

Can anyone recommend what camber bolts would allow me to get these results? Do different brands have different limits as to how much camber they can add?

Also how many camber bolts do I need to do each side? For example if I got a set of Powerflex camber bolts for the rear how many sets do I need?
Powerflex camber bolts give over -3 camber I set mine at -2.5

You need 1 set per wheel = 2x front 2x rear.

I have -2.45 at the front (with powerflex bolts) and the rear was already at -2 (with the stock bolts)

Absolutely transformed the car for me. Cant wait to get my summer wheels back on.. :)

Good to know this made a positive difference for you.

Can I doublecheck what quantity of kits/bolts is needed, please?

Based on the Powerflex website listings (here & here) where it mentions (field "Quantity per car") that 1 of each kit is needed per car, I am under the impression that the GRY would use:
  • 1 kit for the front (ie 1 bolt for the top postion near each wheel); and
  • 1 kit for the rear (again 1 bolt for each side).
Was "1 set per wheel" a typo perhaps?

Yes correct! 1 bolt not set per wheel. Each powerflex kit consits of 2 new bolts. So you need one kit for front and one for the rear. (I only needed the front kit as the rear was already how I wanted it.)

was there today and Alex did great job installing my geo settings

get the Powerflex camber bolts and aim for -2.5deg negative up front plus can get similar with factory rear camber arms

The bolts are sold in pairs so it’s one set per axle

I didn’t get the rears as I have almost -2 degrees on the rear which i thought was enough

I’m at -2.5 degrees front and near as damn it -2 on the rear

Parallel toe front slight toe in on the rear. Works very well

Gents, quick question if you don't mind? I have replaced the wheels on my stock GRY (see attached picture) with different ones, the ET changed from 45 to 38, so effectively I've added a 45-38=7mm spacer per side, so the net total is 14mm wider. Does this affect camber, and if so, by how much? I also did my first circuit laps with the GRY over the weekend and was pretty happy with the performance. Any chance I would be even happier if I fitted camber bolts and aimed for -2.5 in the front and -2.0 in the back with about 0.05 toe in?

No the change in wheel ET won't affect your camber.

If you are happy with it now, why change?

and yes these car absolutely love bit extra camber and toe OUT at front

Yes! Currently running -2.9 front / -2.5 rear camber / 0 toe front and rear. Absoluty love it! Drove a stock GR on the same road/day/tire wheel setup. It felt like another car.....

Stock tyres and suspension?

Any disadvantages?

I ask because this is approximaty the camber setting I am after.

I had camber bolts put in and the geo done this week with -2.5 at the front and -2.25 at the back an 0.05 toe.

It feels good on the road and I will test it out at Brands Hatch in a few weeks. I have got a standard suspension set up and am just going to use the PS4s for the track day.

you've gone toe IN at front which should give good straight line stability just might not grab corners quite as well as toe OUT but still good

in these temps the PS4S should be just fine all day on track

was at Oulton doing reg 8 lap sessions on F1 SS without issue on v cold day

I would like to get another set of track wheels and semi slicks. So far all I have seen for sale are really expensive CP wheels that people are selling off.

I have a Clio 200 track car. You can pick up a set of wheels for Clios for about £200 if you don't mind a well used and tatty set,

5 stud, 114.3 PCD with a centre bore greater than 60mm is very common to Japanese vehicles (and indeed some German brands). If you’re not too fussed about looks cheapish used wheel sets can be found for £400-700, but wheel weight (predominantly deemed by its construction) seems to be the thing that holds the values up. Then it starts creeping up from £800+. Wheels aren’t necessarily one of those things that comes with a specific GRY Tax.

Speak to Tegiwa/AlloyWheelShop. I have Motegi MR145 track wheels, with brand new AR1 tyres it was cheap enough to be cost effective imo. Flow formed so plenty strong enough, half an inch wider with a slightly lower offset. They're even a touch lighter than the OEM circuit ack wheels but this is offset by the tyre weight.

I would have definitely gone through another set of PS4Ss at least, and would have struggled to find them at the time.

Here's a link the the ones I have

Likely to be a bit of discount on them over the xmas period if you keep an eye on their facebook/instagram pages. They normally discount everything by 5 or 10% on xmas day and for a few days after.
