GR86 GR86 Delivery Tracking and Collection thread

When were the emira order books opened, early 21? So you’re looking at 2.5 years wait for a base i4 delivery?

Toyota, if you're listening...

Oh, the lulz...

Two things:

1.
The mid-November thing is a training event, not a reward for our patience. Staff need to know how to sell the "GR thing", even if it's a trim level on the C-HR.

2.
There's one very simple reason why demo cars will go out to GR Centres ahead of customer cars: Toyota would rather write off 40-odd demo cars to pre-owned forecourt sales than 400 cars that customers return after 13 days. If you are going to discover that "it's too small" / "the rear seats won't accommodate my unwanted progeny" / "I'll get a GT3 instead", Toyota would really like you to discover that before they register a car in your name, send it to your local dealership and let you faff around in it for 200 miles. Technically, you would be within your rights to return the car under distance selling regulations, but Plan D (for 'demonstators') will make sure that as many customers as possible get a brand new, never-before-registered car to call their own. I'm not asking you to like it, but this actually works for us and works for them.

And frankly, what's another fortnight between friends?

Compare Lotus to Toyota

"Dear XXX

As an important Emira customer I wanted to update you personally on your Emira order. In our last communication we shared the difficulties we are facing not only as an industry but here at Lotus.

In 2022 we have faced several unforeseen complications, and as a result we have not been able to ramp up Emira production in the way we had initially planned. This has been challenging but we are doing our very best to resolve the issues. As a result your Emira order has been delayed further, and I apologise for the frustration and disappointment I am sure you are feeling.

I can confirm your Emira is scheduled for production in September 2023. Moving forward, you will receive monthly updates on your Emira order including more detailed production timings. As your Emira completes the production process we will contact you directly to arrange and confirm your delivery date, provide more information regarding financial services, trade-in and insurance products that you may be interested in, as well as arranging the final handover with you.

We are pleased to confirm that you will be invited to get behind the wheel at the Emira test drive event, You will receive a separate invitation with more details about this next week. The Lotus team look forward to seeing you there.

Lastly, I want to finish by thanking you for being a valued Lotus customer and for your patience. Our dedicated Lotus Customer Care centre is on hand to answer any questions you may have. You can contact them by responding to this email, calling 03300 948 047.

Sincerely,

Geoff Dowding
Executive Director of Sales & Aftersales

This is, how to deal with customers!

These big order books for various models across manufactuers are almost certainly inflated. Having a big long waiting list of customers may feel like success and stability (everything coming out of the factory will sell instantly) but customers are getting wise to the long order times and putting in multiple pre-orders across manufacturers, then seeing what turns up first and cancelling the others. Heading into recession I expect alot of orders to evapourate once the delivery date is actually set and dealers phone up customers to finalise the sale.

My i30N was supposed to arrive 06/23 due to the special order seats, got moved up to 12/22 with delivery most likely 01/23. As you said the order date gets nearer, petrol prices still high and a car that you’ll rarely see 30mpg in looks less attractive to people so they cancel. Times will get tougher for a lot of people and the first things to go will be luxuries like performance cars.

A while back the wait for one was 8-9 months, if you’re not fussy on spec you can have one in weeks now.

Unfortunately/fortunately (depends on your point of view) some folk have never been through a recession or known interest rates above 1%. I’ve been through a few and my first mortgage was 15% interest rate. Anyone who is already maxed out on income v expenditure is sadly in for quite a big shock ☹️ Time will tell how the entire car market will fare, the list price of new cars is quite frankly ridiculous, the GR86 still looks like bargain of the century to me , particularly if Toyota honour the price we “bought at” and the finance terms 🤔

You're absolutely correct that a lot of people will be in for rude awakening financially in the next couple of years - and not just those that stretched their household budget with unnecessary luxuries.

The issue with bringing up historic mortgage rates to compare with today's figures is that it's missing two points of reference - real wage growth over time and avg house to income ratios. Both of those were vastly more favourable in the past than they are today, so a lot of young people are financially disadvantaged in comparison.

To keep in on topic, I agree the GR86 looks like to be very good value by any means and I hope no one here will be forced to sell one due to their financial situation.

Hi fellow 86ers, please can someone help me find my ship! I had notification on 2/11 as left factory but i cant seem to find a vessel that matches departure from either Sagunto or Livorno around that time. Would love to track it with my boy if i can. Cheers Chris

So has the Script changed again regarding demo car or is what Toyota Online team saying being misinterpreted? Originally ALL GR centres (circa 37) were being allocated a demo car. Supposedly when the entire U.K. allocation of presumably 400 cars “Sold out in 90 minutes “ someone in Toyota U.K. decided no point in having demo cars for a product we can’t sell and allocated all but 5 of said demo cars to customers. The remaining 5 will “tour” dealerships (not necessarily a GR centre) where orders are to be collected from and customers with an Orca contacted to arrange a convenient date and location for a demo 🤔 As there are , let’s say 100 cars sat in Toyota Derby Long Stay, it makes sense to send the “GR86 Touring Cars” to those dealerships which will be handing over the first cohort 🤔 or is that all too sensible 😂

"Lastly, I want to finish by thanking you for being a valued Lotus customer and for your patience. " This - at least some acknowledgement.

Hope that they do honour the price, was watching that elon musk netflix and saw he asked pre-order customers for more money when the cars were due to be delivered because he couldn't sell them at a loss....
