I was planning to use a credit card as part payment to "bridge" the purchase. What's not to like where there are banks offering 2 years interest free?
I have used multiple cards before on a car purchase at the dealer, BUT this is online and I am told you need to pay by bank transfer before collection, maybe days before collection. Is anyone else affected and any thoughts / workarounds?

Transfer the money from your credit card to your bank? I know Barclays and Natwest allows it.

I might check that, but If it were possible (don't know for my card), I expect it would be treated like withdrawing cash which brings a different interest rate etc. I get interest free on "purchases" , but not if you buy a wedge of cash.:(

When I was buying my current car couple of years ago dealer said no to CC as it would make them pay extra couple % of CC fees that they would have to cover.

Sounds about right, bank transfer is normally required.
You could try one of those curve cards that are debit cards but you add your credit card to it, but not sure if they would take debit cards either.

I can't see why they wouldn't. I've bought my previous cars with my debit card and hadn't intended to do any different with this one.

Having used both Curve and Revolut cards for various lower value purchases, I wouldn't assume that this payment method will work for a larger purchase.

I've found them to be hit and miss with retailers, go to Costco to pay for your fuel, it'll reject a Revolut account, but go to Shell and it will be fine.

Both may work with Toyota - you pay online via a link from memory for internet orders, but until someone confirms Curve, Revolut etc 100% work I would be 50/50 on whether the transaction will be processed.

Whether Toyota accepts a card payment for a larger amount or not depends on whether they're happy to eat up the card payment fee associated with the transaction. They're not allowed to charge more because of the payment method selected. I would have thought it's more likely Toyota Online will accept a card payment online as opposed to a dealer due to their higher profit margins and it's confirmed Toyota are the ones taking the payments.

I've also been told by Toyota Online they are flexible with whether you want to use the £1000 deposit towards the final purchase or pay the full amount and receive a separate refund for the £1000.

In terms of using your credit card for a money transfer, e.g. putting cash into your current account, be careful as it's not normally free and may impact your credit score negatively as lenders are not keen on people using borrowing to prop up their accounts.

Section 75 protection won't apply to cars that will have the final price of over £30k, but the Crystal Black models are just under that so it may be wise to make a partial payment by credit card to gain additional statutory protection against the purchase. Mastercard/VISA chargeback will cover the purchase in full as long as the full payment is made using it.
