GR86 If you cancel, flip or have to wait ages what will you buy instead?

Interesting views here. I am losing interest daily in the GR86, for me the chase & looking forward to the pick up date is the best bit.
My interest has now shifted to the new Type R. I love my FK8 & if the new one comes in under 40K I want one.
Just waiting for a call from Honda to put a deposit on one, thank God its not Internet ordering!
If this happens I will probably keep our NC 25AE & flip the 86.
Dream coupe would be the Lexus LC500 V8, fantastic design & Engine.

I could never bring myself to buy a French car, probably an age thing !

Did you manage to put a deposit down on the Type R?

I have paid a £500 deposit to my local dealer to get on their list, I’m 8th on their list and then they’ll see what they get allocated out of the 300 coming to U.K. I very much doubt I’ll get one.

Yes, on Friday they took £500. Apparently 4th on the their list.
If some of the rumours on various sites are true that its going to be nearer £50k than £40k, my attention will turn back to the 86!
In 2019 I paid £32k for my FK8 (list price £34k) so I am really hoping it comes in under £40k.

Same deposit day as me. Dealer expected to have the cars December or early 2023. Seemed to think all 300 being built together, but we all know dealers aren’t always best informed.

I won’t be interested if over £40k, let alone near the £50k mark.

Dealer also advised 5 years free servicing included which is really good if true

The advance model is £33k. So I would think the Type R is going to be a bit more than that.

PCP not looking great at 6.9% on the advance model. Did a quick calculator and £5k deposit equals £411 a month.

Hopefully the price and PCP deal is announced soon

New Honda CTR is priced at £31k*

* According to PH article, JDM model Yen price converted to £, so in now way realistic at all, just trolling sorry:)

Imagine the clamour for them at that price, I’m hearing dealerships have taken a hell of a lot of deposits now too!

I think around 40k is likely, maybe just under.

Yep I am one of those with a deposit down just to get on the waiting list. Expect it to be just under £40k. Dealer thinks only 300 coming to U.K. though, so very unlikely I will get one.

Weird. My local dealership told me they aren't taking any deposits until they get more information on allocations or the order books open.

Sound like a decent dealership and the others sound like the dealerships that took GR86 orders that they had no idea they could fulfil. I have a feeling it’ll be another shit show and a lot of people that have had every generation of Type R will miss out and be quite upset.

I’m just hoping everything goes smoothly with my i30N order. In countries where Hyundai sell less cars some customers have waited a year for their car due to fleet emissions. I feel the supply of all performance cars will be limited going forward.

My local dealer has taken £500 from interested parties and placed you in order on their list. I’m 8th on the list, I’m not sure if that’s the dealer or the group?

When they get told their allocation and what colours they are getting they’ll work their way through the list. If there is still availability when they get to me I get to pick what colour what’s left. Or request my deposit back if not interested.

They believe only 300 are coming to U.K. and it’ll be late 2022/early 2023. If that’s true then I doubt I’ll get one.

But I am taking all of that with a pinch of salt given the GR86 experience.

I’ve fallen a bit out of love with the GR86 but I’ve changed my colour so I have time to fall back in love with it, especially when deliveries take place and I see one in the flesh.

In the meantime I can see myself in the Type R or an i30N. But GTI Clubsports keep catching my eye too🤷‍♂️

I eventually want a 3 car garage and 3 bike garage. The GR86 is step 1 to replace the vRS. Then I'd like an FK8 Type-R as one of the best FWD cars ever made. Then the last I'm undecided. An M2 Comp would be cool as a friend has one and they love it. Or may get something electric to daily.

My old FK8 was great, but with the power through the front wheels it was very limited if the surface was anything other than perfect. When right though, it was really special.

Awesome cars, much prefer the look of the FK8 to the new FL5, especially in championship white. Wish I’d ordered one a few years back as I don’t like buying used hot hatches tbh, too many barry boys map them and put them back to stock before selling. Low miles ones are also selling around list price or over for certain colours!

One of the reasons I’d treat any secondhand turbo car with a lot of suspicion, Golf R is a good example , lots of plugin maps , which get removed before sale. Personally wouldn’t buy a turbo engined car unless new , or from a main dealer who gave a written guarantee that it was 100% original and warranted as such , if they won’t then walk away.
