Just read a detailed spec and description of the car from Toyota, don’t think I’ve seen this much detail before on the changes and specs of various items:

An interesting paragraph on colours

“EXTERIOR COLOURS

The exterior colour choices for the GR86 include three GR-specific finishes inspired by TOYOTA GAZOO Racing’s famous white, red and black competition livery: Crystal White Pearl, Crystal Black Silica and a new shade, Ignition Red, with high colour saturation achieved using a new three-coat multi-layering technique.”

So the Ignition Red DCK is some new fangled (technical term) three coat paint , hope it’s not a mare to match if needs be 😳 but no mention of anything different about Electric Blue DAR used on the GT86 🤔

Some later Mazda's use a clever paint, Soul red for example.

It is a nightmare to match.

Bodyshop I use said if I was fussy I'd need the whole side of the car painted rather than just a door.
 
Mazda's Soul Red is very complicated. Not only the choices of flakes (some are reflective others absorbing) the layers and most of all the techniques to paint this color is pretty special. They had to "teach" so robots the traditional Tukuminuri technique. The first cars were done by hand because of this. It took some time to teach the machines. So it's mostly not the colour itself that's hard to match but the way it's painted. Ony extremely experienced painters were able to spray the colour in a propper way. Sometimes mazda is weird... love them. 😀 Many Japanese companies do things western would never even think about. Just like doing a real homologation special in 2019/20. 🤣😍
 
I can confirm how difficult Soul Red is to match, one of the best Paint shops in North Yorks had a nightmare with my MX5!

Think that's done it for me at worrying about any potential stone chip matching -
100% PPF it is.
