Honda Prelude

I really like this. Love the looks. Okay, you could say it looks bland, but I'd say sophisticated and understated.😁

The drive train is interesting and a good choice for someone like me, that can do 2,3,4,500 mile trips for work in a day.

But, I like manual gearboxes and RWD too much. So it is probably a no from me. Still looking forward to seeing them on the road and I hope Honda do well with it, although probably not in the UK where I read they only expect to sell 500 or so over the next 2 years.

I’m really not keen on the side profile of the Prelude. Just looks really awkward on the front and the back.
Much prefer the 86 shape.

Agree with point 1.

Point 2 - this is me now too! (I'm heading down to your neck of the woods - Poole - for a couple of days' work tomorrow which will be 350+ miles in total)

It’s a FWD electric hybrid based on a civic.

The attraction of the old one was the screaming 2.2 vtec engine that meant it could excite on a spirited drive plus it was an handsome (ish) coupe. The GR86 is RWD, LSD coupe with manual gearbox and the good looks. I just don’t see the attraction of the new prelude. Its looks are OK but the performance and fun just aren’t there for the price. I wouldn’t even consider swapping our MG4 X-power for one.

Might not be an enjoyable drive down due to all the rain overnight. I took my son back to Uni in Bristol last night and it was horrible. 😫

I got the impression the Prelude was always pitched as a coupe not a sports car. It never got a hot version. Alot of people rave on about the 2.2 but I'm sure alot of Preludes sold over here were 2.0 130bhp autos.

Not sure on the sale volume by model but back in the day I had an EG9 Civic VTI and it was the accord type R and prelude 2.2 vti that was on my radar.
I saw the new Prelude at goodwood earlier in the year. Great looking car and I really wanted it to do well but just feel like they’ve missed an opportunity with this one. Maybe they’ll release a ‘VTI’ in the future. Doesn’t need a type R but needs more than the launch car is offering to be of interest to me..

For those of us considering the possibility of moving from a GR86 to a Prelude, this should be interesting viewing.

Love these guys and their vids, personally.

I would have to be mental to sell mine for a Prelude.
Definitely not a like-for-like rival (and appears to be inferior as a driver's choice), but, going from c.3k miles to c.20k miles a year and wanting the commensurate economy and long distance comfort benefits, might be a solid all-round option.

Better than the ubiquitous SUVs anyway!

I've watched most the reviews on the Prelude and I really get it. This isn't a direct GR86 competitor, but if you are someone that really likes it for what it is, which in my opinion is an everyday car that can be fun to drive, has a nice and functional interior, is capable of doing a long journey and you only really need two seats, then it could be a great choice. Especially if you don't need or like SUVs. I wouldn't get rid of the GR86 for one, but I'm still really glad that it exists.

Another few good reviews are...

And yes, I'm a sucker for watching USA / Canadian reviews like all these guys, as they just seem to give a higher level of detail than most UK reviews.

I had a test drive of the new Prelude this week.

Good things: better interior and genuine pearlescent blue paint. Better looking rear end in my opinion. Was achieving 47 mpg on my 30 min test.

Less good things: not a sports car more GT which it was good at. Higher seat position and bigger car all round.

That said glad Honda are doing it in the world of SUV overload.

Nice, thanks for sharing @robster . Still on my radar.

Not seen one in the metal yet; for some reason I thought they weren't in the UK until May.

Perhaps that was first customer deliveries, or perhaps it was March all along.

Or maybe I'm discombobulated because they aren't delayed for months on end without discernible reason...

I don’t like the side profile. Think is looks awful especially the slant from the roof to the backend. The front bumper looks awkward too. The 86 looks so much better.
Tbh the CVT would put me off anyway. Couldn’t drive one of those for fun. My daily Corolla has one and it’s not a drivers car by any means.
