GR Yaris What did you do to your GR Yaris today?

Just changed the pads, endless MX72 for the trackday on Friday.
Original ones lasted 22k km, and 2/3 trackdays

How you finding the coilovers? Done a Swedish winter with them yet? A set of coilers are on my radar, looking at something with a long service life that can handle brutal Baltic winters...

Feels good enough for the street, and great at the track. It sometimes makes some different noises, and transmit more vibration/harshness to the car (probably because of the solid tophat)

I got them last year but just installed after winter. The lower ride height won't be the best thing, but apart from that it should be good.

My parents are away on holiday at the moment so I popped over to theirs...

How long do you reckon it will take my old man to notice? 😁

Treated it to a new battery.

Surprised I needed one this soon, but I've had a few too many reluctant starts recently :-(

How old is it?

July 2021, 18k miles.

The car suffers from not being driven every day, but there's been twice recently when I've gone out to drive it and it's not had enough oomph to start, and yesterday it did start but struggled despite an extended time on the ctek charger last week.

I went for a good long run then took it to my local independent battery place that I've used for years, and I've used them for years because they are very good at telling you when you don't need a new battery!

Anyway, ran all the tests and it was showing that the battery had approx 15% degradation, with 20-25% being the point where it would be definitely knackered. A quick dip with the battery hydrometer showed that the charge was pretty good (I'd taken the 40 mile route to the shop 1 mile away) but the debris in the acid painted a far from rosy picture.

The advice from the battery place was that the battery was OK at the moment but was definitely on the way out and would likely need changing in months rather than years so to keep an eye on it.

I decided that I'd do it now to ensure that everything would be fine heading into the colder months especially as the car still isn't going to be used every day.

I paid a bit more than if I'd ordered online, but they spent the time diagnosing fully, ensuring it was the right one, fitting whilst making sure power was maintained and ensuring that the battery didn't need coding.

The biggest disappointment was cheerily saying that I hoped not to see them soon, getting home and discovering one of my motorbike batteries was completely dead and dry :-( so I'll be back there in a day or two for one of those too.

Went for a drive after changing spark plugs yesterday, only 25k miles but others have said they noticed a difference, so thought why the hell not, definitely starts up better and a little smoother at low speed as others have noticed, went with the HKS M40HL plugs

bought from fensport, who initially sent the wrong plugs by accident, but they sent the replacements the day after I emailed by next day delivery and refunded the initial postage I paid, which was more than the return postage I paid for wrong ones 👍

Had the same issue, June 21 car- 14k miles
Not been driving it for the last year due to a health issue, but it’s been on a ctec and been starting and letting it idle at least once a month. Anyways after a bit of research, i came to the conclusion that the battery was on its last legs and changed it to an AGM battery.

What are you referring to when you say it's smoother at low speeds?

Just seemed a little smoother at low revs when having to dip the clutch constantly and speed up again in traffic, could be absolute tosh of course,

but the startup especially when cold sounds like it struggles less.

I am having some slower starts, and some hesitation sometimes when releasing the clutch without throttle.
I got a set of hks spark plugs stored, but I remember that the maintenance manual ask for some injector cleaner additive to be use at 20k km. I am at 23k, so will try that first and see how it goes.

Mine got its first full tank of Shell V-Power. On a solo mission to central Finland for Secto Rally Finland. Saw the new H2 powered Rally2 Yaris.

cool! looks like they have gotten very serious with the passanger seat height as this one seems to have it lowered almost 0.5m from original position!

Was hoping to stay around for more stages this year and come over to Ouninpohja, but my kid had a little sickness so was stuck back home in Tallinn with his mum. I was told not to waste the booking at Paviljonki so went solo for a few days. Hopefully catch up with you for next years Rally (Ive already booked the Paviljonki for next year again!). Side note, if you want to meet Toyota team just stay at Paviljonki, they are all at breakfast. Even Richard Hammond was next to me at breakfast one morning.
