GR Yaris (Gen 2) GR Yaris Mk2 (MY2024->)

I just posted a comment in a 🇩🇪 YouTuber's video, amongst the ones posted recently with the MK2s with Belgium plates driven in Lyon and the response was that the car has no Start Stop functionality at all. Push the GR button..stays on.

Is this the same YouTuber? - They repeatedly mentioned in the comments that there isn’t an auto start/stop feature:

(translated) - “Doesn’t exist. Engine on. The engine is running. Until you turn it off again.”

If that’s truly the case, then wow! That’s reason enough for me to upgrade. I can't stand having to turn off all this crap. And no, I don’t want some sketchy wired dongle that pretends to fix it. I wonder what else is missing and what else can be permanently disabled with ease. Maybe Toyota finally came to their senses and realized that having to turn off all the crap each time was annoying the living shit out of everyone.

For the record, the new CTR lets you disable all assists permanently, including auto start/stop. For many of us purists, this shit ruins cars! No, really, it does.

I agree with you, it ruins a car like that. But on the other hand, if it's too much effort for you to plug in a small adapter to permanently deactivate the function then it doesn't really bother you. I'm not lying when I say that I installed the connector in under 2 minutes.

With my I20N I had to put in a bit more effort, but it was doable in under an hour and it was worth it.

You should be thankful that it's so easy with the MK1 using a simple plug. With other vehicles you'll be hard-pressed to get it to work, and sometimes it's not even possible.

And whether the MK2 doesn't have a start-stop function here in Europe or specifically in Germany, I won't believe it until I see it myself:).

But therefore Toyota did not implementiert a "Quick off" Button for the speed assistant stuff :( . So we swapped 1 pain for the other 😅

With all these assists and safety features that "must" reenable whenever the car is started, it is necessary for cars to have a profile button.

Give us a button that you can customise... I would customise this button to turn on IMT, disable lane assist, set TC to expert, go into track mode, disable auto stop/start, disable ISA.

Hop in the car, start it up, click your custom profile button, and off you go. Basically what Hyundai has done with their N-custom mode.

I mean.. we have Eco, Normal, Sport and Custom driving mode. WHY THE HELL Toyota can't make Custom do whatever we actually want :D

Anyway I don't care too much, I'll just get a dongle.

When my car was in for its MOT I had the displeasure of running a 23 plate Aygo courtesy car. I was expecting it to be gutless and awful (it was) but not expecting the constant chiming from the speed alert bollocks. I only had to drive it 10 minutes to work but I wanted to crash it into a tree and kill it with fire.

There is no way in hell I could stomach that every day. It’d be like Mark Drakeford tapping you on the shoulder and coughing whilst you’re having sex. f**k that noise. I think aftermarket tuners with hidden kill switches will do a roaring trade.
I had an Aygo X for a few days when they damaged my car and it was in for repair. My wife's Ford Ka had more power and better handling dynamics than that POS. Agree on the new speed limiter tech. It's annoying enough that every time I get in I have to turn off lane assist and auto stop/start.

The problem isn't just auto start/stop. It's a whole array of assists that have to be turned off each time. The other cars I mentioned let you disable them permanently-they stay off until you turn them back on. For example, the new Civic Type R and even my '21 M2C had all the same assists, but once disabled, they stayed off. To me, dongles are sketchy and half-assed solutions. To each their own.

Yeah i have a dongle for ALL Assists in the GRY. And in my Hyundai I20 N i can do it with one button 👍🏻.

They have to be re-enabled by law, so that's something they can't do.
But a shortcut to disable everything would be nice

As far as I know, @sandervdw is right, the law (at least in the EU) clearly states that for instance the ISA has to be automatically turned on anytime you turn on the car, and this is mandatory for any car registered in the EU after July 7th, 2024.
I'd like very much a killer switch myself as well, for the many risky false positives I got from these systems so far, but at least for mandatory assist system like ISA, I'm afraid there could be legal (and insurance) consequences in case of an accident.

Isn't Aygo just a citroen c1?

Finally an Mk2 test that I find very insightful, and helpful.

It says many of the things that we on this forum were expecting: the Mk2 is NOT better than the Mk1 in every thing, it's just different.
Something like the comparison between Delta 16V and Delta EVO, I'd say.

Maybe keeping both the Mk1 and Mk2 could be the right choice? (in case of very deep pockets, clearly...)

Interesting review - waiting to get a test drive with mk2 to see how it copes the small and bumpy roads.

To me, the PH review makes a lot of sense with what we know about the changes from mk1 to mk2 but it will be good to get another real life , real roads, review from a long term mk1 enthusiast owner. When are you expecting to be behind the wheel?

Does anyone know of any GR centres getting an auto? The one local to me is apparently getting a manual.
In just a few hours, the ship Galveston Highway should dock in Bristol, and as far as I know, it should have some Mk2s on board.
I guess UK dealers should get a few fresh demos to show in a matter of a very few days then, hopefully with some autos among them as well.

Very good review, but in the end the summary is "the new one is/feels way faster, but you don't really need a faster car". That's the same as the endless discussion between 911 and Cayman, and in the end the 911 will always be seen as the better car. Even though a lot of reviewers will explain that the cayman is better balanced and has more than enough power.
