GR86 Winter wheel & tyre advice

A little update, I booked in to get some CC3S fitted on Friday as part of a black Friday deal. they worked out at about £110 each fully fitted. I'll let you know how they are.
I'm always the weird request guy at tyre places, and holding up that reputation, I'll be turning up with 4 wheels in the back of a van with only part worn MPS4s on them. Hopefully I'll have time to fit them immediately after. My job-list is ever growing, but this is going to be quite a high priority one.

+1. I also only take the wheels and not the car. I also remove the old balancing weights beforehand, rather than have the tyre fitter hastily scratch them off.

The CC3s are REALLY good. Soaking wet roads covered in a combination of various types of dead plant life and standing water and they grip and hook up beautifully. Even in these conditions I could use full throttle in 2nd, and my car is turbocharged. I'm VERY impressed. I got 225/40/18 on the standard wheels.

It's really great to get real feedback so thanks. It sounds like they could be a good whole year option. When you have been on them for a bit it would be useful to understand the noise levels. Are these like the original CC2s that helped damp out the drone / hum when cruising? I know your car goes Pshh Pshh but any thoughts appreciated!

I had a 20 min motorway drive this morning. They seem mlre comfortable and less noisy than the goodyears i have on my RPF1s, which i in turn found to be quieter than the MPS4, or at least they resonated less.

I was actually really suprised by this as the goodyears are 245/40/17 so have a bit more meat.

Maybe its the treadblock height, or just some wizardry. The extra with of the summer wheels might make them noisier.

My car is very loud during anything other than a light throttle cruise, so it may be masking some noises. Something to bear in mind

Either way, the CC3Ss seem like a pretty comfortable tyre.
They score well in dry handling, so would be OK for summer, but if you like driving balls to the wall they might exceed their temp window. I've no experience of this though obviously, and will be going back to my UHP tyres when the weather improves. Speaking of UHP tyres, the CC3S feels like one, just not quite as sharp as a dedicated UHP tyre.
