I am curious to know what people think is meant by a long wheelbase. A london bus has a long wheelbase compared to a mini but a mini has a long wheelbase compared proportionately to a Audi Sport Quattro. What do you think of the GRY wheelbase? Short or long with respect to its length?
 
It’s longer than it is short. Many reviews mentioned it’s short wheelbase when reviewing it yet compared to many competitors it was the same or longer and they never mentioned wheelbase length for them. I suspect it was journalists assuming rather than fact finding.
 
I was parked next to a 2017 911T and the GR is around 8cm longer wheelbase. I think the GR messes with peoples perceptions

Dimensions compared to the 991.2 Carrera T - notable because other than the “R” the “T” was the last narrow bodied 911.

That said, not a 993 or a Singer - however, a great benchmark for comparison.

GR 86
Exterior Length (mm) 4265 mm [Carrera T: 4527 mm] - GR 86 2.62 cm shorter

Exterior Width (mm) 1775 mm [Carrera T: 1808mm] - GR 86 3.3 cm narrower

Exterior Height (mm) 1310 mm [Carrera T: 1285MM] - GR 86 5.2cm taller

However, Power to Weight Ratio: GR86 180BHP/Tonne. Yarris 201BHP/Tonne, 991.2 Carrera T 218 BHP/Tonne

Yaris
Exterior Length (mm) 3995 mm [Carrera T: 4527 mm] - Yaris 5.32 cm shorter

Exterior Width (mm) 1805 mm [Carrera T: 1808mm] - Yaris 3mm wider

Exterior Height (mm) 1455 mm [Carrera T: 1285MM] - Yaris 13.3cm taller

Wheelbase (mom) 2,560 mm [Carrera T: 2450 MM] - Yaris 11cm longer

BTW the 991.2 could be specified with Rear Wheel Steering - which supposedly: “virtually reduced the wheelbase by a further 25cm” and the turning circle by 0.43m.

The 2017/18 “T” a very special car
 
Thanks for the replies. Does anyone want to opine on whether the GRY is a short or long wheelbase car? If it is short wheelbase then what does that make a 911? In my mind a better definition of this would be a percentage of wheelbase to car length. Then we would have a useful measure.

There’s got to be a “golden ratio for wheelbase: length/width” - suspect both the 991.2 T RWS and the GRY will be bang on that ratio but we need someone with better maths to do the calculation.

Weight distribution has to be another key factor along with FWD, RWD, 4WD

A good 2018 991.2 T 7MT RWS as unobtainable as the GRY - hence my GR86 order

I suspect that the GRY has the ratio closest to 1 if you divide any cars wheelbase by length. There may be outliers but not if you look at performance cars. Which begs my question of whether it is a short wheelbase car because there are people who are offering to set up your GRY who claim it is. That claim makes me wonder if they ever studied basic geometry. Or are they stringing you along?
