Totally Hooked
I knew I wanted another sports car, and the choices are shrinking now we're being pushed into EVs whether we like it or not, and I really don't want an SUV whilst I'm still capable of getting into a low 2 seater. I don't mind a hot hatch to drive, but I like a car to look as good as it goes (I know the GR Yaris is an amazing drive, but the looks don't really do anything for me).
I tried the Alpine, 718, Z4, Supra and F-Type all within a few weeks of each other. For me, the Alpine was the biggest disappointment. When you listen to what car journalists say, then you'd expect it to be amazing, but it was just too much of a compromise for me - too cheap inside, impractical, and just didn't feel as special as I'd want it to for the money it costs. The 718 was a lovely drive, especially around the corners, but the engine was course and noisy, and don't get me started on the dealers, they really like to think they're doing you a favour buying one of their cars. The Z4 was nice, but I couldn't get past the looks, it just didn't work for me. This left the Supra and F-Type - I preferred the Supra, but I was offered a very good deal on an F-Type and went for that.
The F-Type is a great car, but unless you're going for a V8, I found that it isn't the sort of car that makes you want to just get in and drive for the sake of it, it didn't have the fun factor I wanted (I'd come from an Abarth 124 Spider, so was missing the the way that made you feel everytime you drove it).
Thanks to the chip shortage and demand for used cars, I managed to trade-in the F-Type (for a lot more than it cost me 12 months earlier) for my nearly new Supra and I'm loving it so far - I look forward to every trip in it. It's way more comfortable as a daily driver than the F-Type, which was a pleasant surprise, and it handles very well, especially now I've had the wheel alignment sorted by TunedUK. Also, the B58 engine really is one of the best out there when you look at the amount of power it has, the sound of it, and how good it is for fuel consumption, which although not a deal clincher for me, makes a difference when you're using as your daily driver.
So, I'm wondering what cars did others consider, before making the correct decision and getting a Supra? ;-)
