I‘ve a 9x17 inch wheel and tyres need being replaced soon.

This test from Tire Rack suggests that a 225/45/17 tyre could be an interesting option on a 9 inch wheel:

This would require local TÜV approval. I‘d go with the PS4S and got the relevant confirmation from Michelin for the approval (the PS4S in 225/45/17 has a maximum with of 234mm, so is more of a 235 tyre)

Has anyone experience with such a stretched set up that can be shared here? Thank you!

Why am I considering this:
My current summer set up is an (almost worn out) Cup2 in 205/50/17 on a 7x17 wheel. I like it a lot; it‘s nimble and turns in fast. Grip in dry is immens (higher than with an OEM 225/40/18 PS4S). However, when pushing in turns, it can happen that you „overdrive“ the tyre due to the high sidewall.

As I am locked in with the wheel size, I‘d hope the stretch on the 9 inch wheel will make the 225/45/17 PS4S behaving a bit more like a Cup 2 in turns in the dry (and I’d be ok to trade a bit of dry grip for increased wet performance). Tyre weight, tyre life and NVH should be better as well (at least not worse) than with the Cup 2.

Any thoughts, pros & cons? Do you see a better tyre-option in 225/45/17 than the PS4S (no track use)?
