GR86 Trickle charging...

Hey guys, so I got myself a CTEK MXS 5.0 charger and connected it to the car's battery. I haven't really changed anything it automatically switched itself to the car program. It is showing 2/3 lights out of 8 being charged, the manual says I can start the car at 4 and obviously 8 is fully charge. Should I charge it fully though? I only need to drive the car tomorrow for a couple of minutes and then back to the garage it goes, probably for a couple of weeks. Unless something comes up again.
 
I'd just leave it on charge until you need to go out tomorrow. It'll get through its full cycle by that point.
 
Just open the bonnet and connect the positive underneath the red cover and clip the black to a negative
 
I was going to go with this option, but is the consensus it should be the screw with the blue paint?…

My other car, Volvo V40, is occasionally displaying a Low Battery warning. Reading up on it, several sources said do not connect anything directly to the negative battery terminal, either a charger or accessories (lights, amplifier, radio, etc).
The Battery Current and Temperature sensor will not see the current if it is connected to the battery terminal, IE, before the sensor.
I'm not sure about the Toyota, but the Volvo monitors the current 24/7, so it needs to see any charge going into the battery from a booster or trickle charger to give an accurate status report.

More importantly for vehicles with a smart alternator, if it can't sense accessories there is a possibility it could overcharge the battery and/or damage the alternator.

The picture below shows my Noco charger lead correctly grounded with the Current Sensor between the battery and charger.
Any other suitable ground point on the body or the engine, such as the one near the strut tower, will also work and allow the sensor to see the total current.

@Road_trip good advice there! I've got a Noco10 plug permanently wired to the battery using one of the 'altenative' feeds and the sensor ground. I had to dremmel out a channel in the red plastic terminal cover in order for the conditioner lead to stick out at 90 degrees and also to not have the terminal cover flapping about. The Noco conditioner is mounted on my garage wall, so I've connected it via two of the Noco extension cables, up through the GR86 engine tray to the mounted connector, which avoids having to drape leads over paintwork. The heavy rubber ground cable cover is for H&S, so that the missus can't sue me if she trips over trying to squeeze between my car and the roller door 🤭.
The car will hibernate in this state over the Winter until its service in February, when I'll be forced to take the covers off and drive it over to the Central belt ...Bah!🥺

I bent the tab on the positive lead and tucked it under the clamp. It runs under the red cover without cutting.

Having something like a CTEK is a good investment, it will definitely save you the cost of a new battery now and again. I use them on both my cars I don't use during winter.
Also good if someone needs a jump start, just pop it on charge for 15 mins.
 
I have a CTEK. I’ve hardwired the quick release on the battery.
Can sort of see it in this pic.
