So limiting torque as you go to higher gears. Porsche uses 2-speed transmission in Taycan which is good choice in terms of combining performance and economics. Good that manufacturers try to make cars more involving to drive but not sure that is the right path.

A major point of moving to EV is to make driving easier/simpler and hopefully safer - so if people are clamouring for EV’s that are interesting to drive I’d rather see manual functions to adjust the torque/power, damper settings and the ability to increase steering feel.

Tesla experimented with this in America with the M3 Performance, where you could shift all of the power to the rear wheels and make the car drift quite easily and safely…
 
Gearboxes are a compromise. And although we’ve ended up with a situation where satisfaction can be derived (by us beardy types, at least) from skilful orchestration of the various rotating and reciprocating oily bits under our control when changing gear, it’s barely tolerable in most cars nowadays with their DBW throttles and spongy, idiot-proof linkages.

Getting rid of gears is one of the massive positives about EVs. Can’t imagine why anyone would like to simulate it.
 
I'll admit to reaching for the gear stick and/or lifting my left foot for the non-existent clutch pedal on our EV at times, but that doesn't actually mean I'd want them in there :oops::rolleyes::sneaky:
