We only get 12 months breakdown cover, if I recall correctly.

As some us took delivery last December, I guess this is something else (as well as tax, service and insurance) we need to think about.

What are your plans? E.g., carry on with the Toyota cover? Third party cover such as Green Flag? Add to your insurance?

The service plan I took (3yr not 10) includes breakdown cover.

I get RAC cover incuded with my bank account, so I'll just stick with that. Probably worth checking your own bank account as they don't always publicise well some of the extras included.

Cheers chaps.

@midlife_sportscar - I noticed how some service plans now include the breakdown cover.

@Nick - a good thought - mine doesn't, but this may well be present for some of our fellow owners.

Make sure your banks cover does what you need.

Toyotas cover is with the AA and will take you where you want, the cheaper covers will take it to the nearest garage. I've used Toyota cover to get me and the car recovered 130 miles back to home.

Haven't had the need to use them, so can't comment on service but Start Rescue is cheap with reasonable reviews (no worse than AA / RAC)

3* Cover with them is approx £30pa.

I think the standard Toyota service plan does come with breakdown cover.

I use AutoAidBreakdown which covers myself and my other half in any car. It used to be £30 per year for both of us so was great bargain. Its now just over £60 for both of us, before options. Still good value I think.

I think the newer three-year version does (which is currently the one detailed on the Toyota website); some of the longer ones taken out c.1 year ago (mine's a six year plan) don't unfortunately.

This is useful - thanks.

(Part of me is thinking "nah why bother with breakdown cover on a one-year-old Japanese car", but I suppose it's like when you take an umbrella out and you don't need it/leave umbrella at home and it absolutely shags it down)

sim61 has it: AutoAidBreakdown for the person or the car is the one to have in terms of value.

I have had my GRY just over two years. I took out a three year plan just before the servicing prices went up in August 2022. My plan does not include breakdown cover. I renewed the Toyota cover as it seemed as good as any.

I'm with auto aid, but I've been regularly told they are pants as they are just a middleman and you have to pay and claim.

I don't care never needed to use them and very cheap!

Used them once, about 20 years ago. Paid, claimed and money came through.

I think I read somewhere that they changed the system a few years ago. Now you don't need to pay the repairer, they pay direct. Not needed to test it though, touch wood.
