"The GR86 is one of 2022’s very best cars. The antidote to overpowered, overweight, overcomplicated so-called sports cars, it’s like a sanitised, weatherproof Caterham. Able to deliver real-world giggles at an affordable price, but improved in key areas over the GT86 – the torque, the looks, the on-the-limit handling.
It’s almost sadistic that such an attainable hero should only be allowed to live for a couple of short years in the UK, but if you’re getting one – wherever you live – you’re buying a car that’ll become a classic in its own lifetime, and one of the very best machines Toyota has ever built."

Thanks @Nick , good to see all these reviews starting to come through.

I'm off to practice my smug face

And the prize for best review summary goes to....TopGear!! I've been pouring over all the reviews as they have come in today and this is the verdict that sets my sights even higher than they already were. The line 'It's like a sanitised, weatherproof Caterham' struck a chord with me as it was the experience of driving one in the Highlands 10 years ago that sent me down the sports car road.

I was into my Mk2 Golf GTI's back then and had an immaculate example but when I got back into it after handing the Caterham back, it felt like I was sitting on a pile of books and completely numb. Fast forward 10 years and several MX5's later (that I gave up trying to squeeze myself in) and it sounds like I've finally found a car that nails the brief of a second car. If it gets anywhere close to the claimed Caterham like experience for me at the weekends and also offers everyday all year round transport for my wife during the week then I'll be a happy man :D

Agreed - I think this is the most comprehensive and insightful review for me, which surprises me given its Top Gear. Although I might just be being swayed by the high praise! Must admit that it was also the Caterham comment that I most latched onto - that's exactly what I'm looking for in this car.

It's a shame you don't know who's written it - hopefully it's someone with a bit of experience who doesn't just automatically think "manual RWD sports car = Caterham".
