Hijacking this thread - or almost any part of a GR forum - to talk about a 25 year old car from another manufacturer feels a bit weird. Possibly also a little self-indulgent

There's clearly some Honda love here though, so if there's some interest and the opportunity arises then I can talk about it a little. Perhaps after my GR86 arrives I can put them both together and make some observations.

There's a YouTuber in the US called Zygrene who owns both an NSX and a BRZ - I keep meaning to check if he's actually put them both in one video yet . . .

I was hoping for a Car that feels like my old CRX , small(ish) practical (luggage space) , totally useless back seat revvy engine light weight good brakes nice gear change () affordable Not a hot hatch. The cherry on the cake is a 10 year warranty and as I will always use my local Toyota dealership and won’t modify the engine /drivetrain if it breaks they will fix it.

If I think about it my car obsession started around these. My sister's boyfriend at the time had one which I loved and she ended up in a Del Sol with the transtop roof .

He had an EK Civic that he dropped some kind of Accord engine in to from memory as well. When my trusty Pug 306 died (first car!), he made me test drive a DC2 Integra... Still the most favourite car I ever owned!

I haven't owned a GT86. I wanted one but 10 years ago I couldn't afford it. So I've had a couple of used warmish hatchbacks instead while saving for something special. Had Alpine prices dropped rather more than they have I'd have considered one of those. However, when I saw the GR86 I decided that would be the car.

I've not test driven one but I've read enough reviews to know what I'm getting and I sat in a demo car to make sure my large feet could work the pedals. I know it's not as practical or as economical as what it's replacing but I have another car that I can use for carrying stuff and doing 50mpg. I'm confident the negatives will be outweighed by the positives. It'll be my first ever new car and almost certainly the last. As long as I can afford to run it I'll be keeping it.

I'm really pleased that I was able to secure a GR86, I've never owned a Toyota but I've been close many times. I've owned or driven a veritable plethora of cars in my lifetime of all different shapes and sizes. The ones that I've absolutely loved are my 997 GTS, 997.1 GT3, Cayman R, Renault Clio Trophy, E92 M3 and BMW M235i. I absolutely loved the Elise and Caterham 620R that I drove - both amazing cars but I couldn't live with them as dailies.

I'm hoping that the GR86 will be a car that I can use everyday , enjoy at a track day, take for a Sunday morning blast and just be a delight to own. From what I can gather, it will be one of those cars that I can just delight in driving. I'm really looking forward to getting mine!

I was slightly nervous before the test drive having never driven or been a passenger in a GT86 before but I loved it. It exceeded my expectations and I never noticed problems with road noise or a harsh ride that many reviewers have commented on. I'm sure longer drive will allow the true nature of the car to reveal itself, rather than a 30 minute drive.

Like another poster on here I'm looking for a car that is a step up in refinement, practicality and running costs - compared to my 993 which costs me £12.50 every time I drive it thanks to the ULEZ. However I do have access to an Audi A3.

I have been looking at GT86s for a number of years after happening across a new one in a showroom whilst looking for a family car. Up until that point I'd never paid them much attention but the moment I sat in it, I got very interested. It felt like a perfectly proportioned drivers car with a great seating position in a way I haven't felt since the Corrado VR6 that I sold 20 years ago! I'm 6'3" with long legs so I generally have problems fitting in small sports cars. Elises, MX5s, S2000s, Caterhams are out for me. I owned an F-Type for a while and even that was compromised for me and whilst it was insanely fast (550bhp) it was just too big and heavy for what I wanted in a sporty car.

I was very tempted by the GT86 blue edition but the moment I heard about the GR86 I knew I had to have one and on the evidence of the test drive, I was right. However I ordered the Toyota to be a drive anywhere / leave anywhere car that I wouldn't feel to precious about. But the relative rarity now has me thinking that it might turn into a semi-garage queen as well.

Welcome to the forum @leosayer , I'd be interested to hear about your 993 at some point.

I owned one myself a dozen or so years ago (1996 Carrera coupe manual) when they were a lot cheaper to buy than nowadays!

I've had it for over 15 years
