Hello,

I’m just gathering ideas for some subtle cosmetic modifications. Having gone down the mudflaps route and with a plain white car, I’m interested in other subtle changes I could make.

Does anybody have a picture of the TRD door handle protectors fitted to their car? I was thinking of them as a subtle appearance modification but interested to see what they look like as most photos are before fitting. Like these.

Equally, if anybody has a spoiler extension (rather than full blown replacement a la TOMS) then I’d also be interested to see what they look like when fitted - something like this or a duckbill one is of interest:
Maxton one, relatively cheap.

(Also the TRD stripe sticker, but not sure I can bring myself to spend that much on a sticker, might be a source of inspiration though for something similar and cheaper that I could get made up.

Thanks!

I'd go for the front splitter.
Thanks, any in particular? I’m pretty new to anything car modifications wise but read that Maxton stuff is cheaper, but given that it is purely cosmetic and not going to be generating any downforce if the thing is held on with tape in effect then that’s all that matters. Equally the official TRD ones look cool, just need to pay a bit more! Maybe there’s a middle ground?

It’s quite an interesting car really, as there is the rally look route you can go down with mudflaps etc; equally there is the track type option with bumper strakes and splitters etc.

I've not got one, as I've only just got my front bumper repaired/replaced after a badger incident.

I don't know which one is best, but every GRY I've seen with one looks good imo.

Oh yeah I remember reading about the badger! It’s almost taken as long for that bumper replacement as my entire car.
I’ll have a look at what’s out there but agree, they do look good.

I’ve got the door handle protectors but still haven’t fitted them as not sure on they’ll look. My girlfriend wears far too many rings for my liking too… 😬

I follow your Instagram so I’ll keep an eye out ;) but yeah I’m just not sure how they would be either. I’ve been watching a few best motoring YouTube videos this morning but they’re not exactly understated!

With the TRD stripe, it often doesn’t show, but it actually has a chrome edging on it. You can see it better on red or black. @Sticky made some similar ones without the chrome for those who weren’t keen on it.

The closest I could find to a photo of the handle protectors on a white car was on a Civic:

And I still can’t decide whether I like them or not! I had some clear PPF ones on there over winter, but they got really grubby.

Thanks that’s really helpful to see colour wise for sure! I don’t think they’re too bad actually so food for thought. Did spot this today already though on the driver’s side ones (weird angle but you get the idea) 😯

Quite good to know about the stripe too. Have also considered the coloured in side panels / sills - really like the recce car look and lots of them seem to have reinforcements in this area so a sticker might give the same shape effect when viewed from further away:

The toyota dealer has clear PPF handle protector for around 10 pounds for a set.. You could fit and replace them every 2 years and it would be much better cost and appearancewise..

The TRD front splitter is well worth the dough. It's a lot better than the Maxton etc

Just seeing if a bit of a contrasting colour will look good so I’m as interested in them for the colour as well as the protection! More going for accents rather than anything too in your face, but thanks as will consider pre winter if I decide the black colour isn’t for me.

Very good to know thanks. With a lot of stuff it’s tricky to know if it’s an unnecessary premium or the usual get what you pay for and worth doing something that will last and look how you want it to!

Put some them on today. I quite like them tbh as they look like a shadow but I’ll see how I feel in a month or so. In classic me fashion I managed to bugger up the height placement and I think they’re a bit too high from the centre of the handle but the mistake is approx the same on both sides at least. For such a simple thing it’s a bit of a pain to fit - I went with the top of the GR logo but of course as soon as they shape to the bowl of the recess it moves up slightly.
