After one summer on 205/50/17 tyres on a 7*17 wheel I am sold on this wheel & tyre size (for road use).

I have the possibility to get another set, used. There are currently studded tyres fitted; I can’t use them really where I live and I have no experience with such tyres.

Can the studs be removed without harming the tyre? Would this generally make them illegal for road use? And if yes: How bad of an idea is it then to use them for the (occasional) sliding fun (not on public roads…)?

What brand of tyres are they? Guessing they are a nordic tyre.. Some nordics although quite rare come in a studded but without studs and tyre shop studs the tyres. I.e. Toyo Observe G3-ICE (Studdable)

Tyres are Nexen Winguard Winspike 3

AFAIK it's not illegal to take out studs, but check in your country. Without studs they generally are a bit less grippy and more solid (less thread movement) than nordic studless.
@AdvEvo maybe has more to say about the process of removing studs, I've never had to...

It should not be a problem, as others mentioned you can buy tyres that you can stud yourself, if otherwise the tyres are fine, even wear, no cracks or bulges, it should not be an issue IMO.
