Last week, while searching for a skid plate, I came across one for the standard XP210 Yaris from skid-plate.com. After comparing some photos, I figured it should be close enough, and in the worst case, I could make it fit with a bit of drilling, cutting, and welding. So, I went ahead and ordered one.
It arrived today. It’s a steel skid plate, 2 mm thick, and weighs 11 kg (the stock paper one is ~1.2 kg). It feels quite strong, not "smash any rock" strong, but it’ll definitely handle my winter adventures. The quality is pretty decent too. So, the big question: does it fit? Yes, it does, and quite nicely. A few small adjustments were needed, some zip ties were used, and it doesn’t follow the exact contour of the car’s underside. It sits about 2 cm lower at the lowest point compared to the stock one, but that’s something I can live with.
The best part? It was 179 € with free shipping (at least that was the deal last week). And no, I’m not affiliated with skid-plate.com or any other vendor.
If anyone’s interested, here’s the one I used: https://www.skid-plate.com/steel-skid-plate-for-toyota-yaris-xp210
