GR86 Rusty Wheel hubs

Hello,

For the first time, I switched the Summer wheels to the winters on the GR86 myself. I was shocked to notice that all four wheel hubs are badly rusted. The car is a daily driver and saw a little bit of salty roads, but the rest of the car shows next to no signs of rust.
On the few cars I've switched wheels, I've never experienced such an extend.
Some of you also drive your car daily. How is the condition of yours?

Next week I have a service scheduled and will bring it up.

If the dealer takes no action, how do I get rid of the rust and how do I conserve the hub from rusting again?

I'll be changing to my winter wheels shortly, I'd be tempted to give these a wire brushing and then slather in a bit of grease

That is galvanic corrosion. Caused by the dissimilar metals of your alloy wheels and steel brake discs. It's unusual to see it look that so soon.

Wire brush it and use something like Liquimoly ceramic grease to create a barrier.

I did this a few months ago when fitting new wheels and one side looks like the below but the other still corroded so it’s not perfect.

Glad I replaced with ARP studs too, no sign of corrosion so far even though I’m using open ended nuts.

Thank you mackie for the tipp. Due to the state of my wheel hubs, I'll get some additional rust remover. The weather forcast predicts rain and snow with 1°C for the week. So I have to wait until it gets a bit better.

As expected, the dealer brushed it of as completly normal and nothing to be concerned about. Apart from this, the service was good. I requested 5w30 oil, no wash and no vacuuming and they complied. They also asked if they should refill the washer fluid and replace wiper blades, which i declined.

Got my lazy ass up to finally treat the rusty wheel hubs. Had everything laying around since November but the weather was shit and I had plenty of other lame excuses.
To my surprise the dealer had already taken care of it, when the car was in for the November service.
I did not expect this, based on the behavior of the Workshop responsible, when I picked up the car. He sheepishly avoided me.
It's not pretty but it does what it's supposed to.

With that sorted I had more time fitting the Rokblokz splash guards.

Im not quite sure why we suffer from this but here is my offside rear from last month.

Bit poor really, surface corrosion from the brake disk, the white deposits on the studs is zinc oxide from the steel inserts inside the alloy wheels.
