GR Yaris Rear vision mirror windscreen crack

Hey guys, just wondering if anything like this has happened to anyone here

This occurred during the cold spell over the past couple of days. The temperature was in the single digits, and I had the defrost on. I went to adjust the mirror, but instead of the mirror moving, the windshield cracked. It felt like a crunchy sticker. I removed the plastic casing and unplugged it so it wouldn’t dangle in front of my face.

When I was moving the mirror, the arm did feel stiff, but I certainly didn’t apply excessive force. In fact it was less than the weight of my hand. No risers or extensions, fully stock screen and mirror

I’m not sure what to do in this case — would this fall under warranty, or am I just shit out of luck?

That is a new one,

I've had mine crack from the lower corner of the screen, which seemed to propagate from behind the seal, I just went to my insurance and claimed through them, didn't want to wait for the OE screen , I'm happy and just paid the excess.
Looking at yours that looks like a warranty claim, a few have done it on the forum and the previous place .

The problem according to the rep was that I set defrost to Auto which created a large air current into the windshield. At the time we had very strong winds 80kmh+ and single digits temps. Anyway this weakened the windshield and Toyota are refusing to cover it under warranty

That's hilarious. Do they know the exact same car is also sold and used in countries that get proper cold weather?

I use my Yaris all year round. In winter it can be -35 C. And there are no problems with the windshield. Usually the glass breaks from a sharp temperature change in another way, along the air duct. If you warm up the engine in winter and turn on hot air on the glass.
The photo shows an example of cracks from turning on hot air on cold glass, which are found in cold regions.
A crack like yours is caused by a chip in the stone or a manufacturing defect.
