Yes-- when you engage the hand brake while the car is running the center clutch pack disengages drive to the rear. I believe that's the racket you hear back there when doing so.

Tried using the hand brake at a recent session on a skid pan to set the car sliding and it works brilliantly , one quick pull finger on release button and away she goes ! Could fit a pull lever if you wanted .

Impressed that Toyota took the time to reduce unsprung mass by drilling big holes in the wheel hubs.:geek:

Had sudden 'loss' of hand brake few days ago after staring with a cold car.
Feels like hand brake lost couple clicks from its normal operating window, meaning that before it started gripping rather early now it needs to be pulled really high.
Not sure if adjustment is loose somewhere or what is the reasoning.

Hand brake was adjusted few months ago as it had gotten not grippy by shop so thought of returning the car for them to be checked.
Dont believe it can be brake wear related as the change in its operation was so sudden.

Foxspeed can you remember which way to back off the adjuster for drum removal.
Is it flick the wheel upwards ?
Is it the same for both sides ?
That’s what I usually forget when I’m sat in front of one.

Has this happened to anybody else? Quite a loud pop after pulling the handbrake when parking up - it doesn’t affect anything and the brake stays on but feels like slack in the system being released. It has happened twice at random, once a few months ago and second time today. Hasn’t been pulled hard and again nothing is affected but got a fright - and is on stopping so isn’t the calipers releasing or anything like that.

tried to adjust the hand brake but disc on it appears to be pit pita. hand brake seems to be not working even though have not used it that much.

Do our hand-brake drums have self-adjustment capability, like regular rear drums usually had? With those, any time you hit the brakes while traveling in reverse, if the shoes were too far from the drum they'd move far enough to actuate the adjuster.

If we have that, activating it would require engaging the hand-brake while travelling in reverse-- not something that's going to happen often of its own accord.
