I came across this on another forum, I thought it would be of interest to anyone that has PPF fitted to their car.

does seem like insurer's trying to riggle out of paying up however......wonder if they're coming from the angle that it will cost them more if ever need to have a dent on a section with PPF repaired it may cost them slightly more if the paint shop have to first remove the film before repair can commence

There's been a couple of threads recently on PH about people having their insurance cancelled.

I think Yaris San above has it right, PPF would increase the repair costs.

Has anyone on here declared PPF to their insurance?

If so, what did they say?

I just rang admiral after reading this and they said its fine, its not a vinyl wrap, they noted it on my policy, no charge and said it wasnt necessary to alert them as it was just a bit of protection.

They didn't seem bothered at all.

I asked them to put it on the notes and to confirm by email and they've done both. But to be honest thats because I'm being anal. If you're with Admiral you have nothing to worry about.

Could it be equally, if not more, importantly that another minor thing to have to declare gives them a chance to keep receiving money until it's time for them to pay out, when they refuse to, on the basis of this technicality.

Yes, I have. Only PPFed the piano black bits of the car with transparent film, so nothing special or extensive, but was advised by insurer to declare wrap. Had this been a second-hand car without the seller telling me about the PPF, I couldn't have spotted it and if, by a miracle I did, I would have assumed it was something standard and factory fitted, just like another couple of PPF bits that are indeed factory fitted.

If so, what did they say?

They charged a higher premium.

I never thought car insurance could be so important until I was in a situation where I lost it. I was driving drunk and had an accident that almost cost me my life. In my condition, I never imagined how much I could have lost. But luckily, I had insurance. When I sought the help of an attorney I learned about from agp law, I was sure all was already lost. But because I had insurance, I got the support and protection I needed in a time of need. The lawyer stood up for me and helped me avoid major fines, and the loss of my car.
