Some time ago, I got a good car insurance deal from the RAC for my runaround Yaris Mk2 and ever since, I've received periodic emails advertising their 'on your drive' servicing. Has anyone on here any experience of this or similar?

The 2-year service for my 86 is coming up in the autumn and I'm surveying the alternatives at present, esp as I'm looking at half a grand for a dealership service. RAC is a respected organisation, its mechanics generally know what they're talking about and of course it's VAT registered. I could buy an oil & filter service package from Fish Bros for under £100, so parts would be genuine Toyota.

Any experiences/thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've never had an 'on your drive' service, but I used a trusted independent JDM specialist for my Y1 and Y2 having bought a 'Service Kit' from Toyota Direct Parts (which at the time was £75). My garage invoice total was £78 labour. Brake fluid was changed during my BBK install and cost me £12 for the fluid, so all in it was around £165 for a Full Service. I'd prefer to use a bricks-and-mortar garage purely because of the UK's dodgy weather. Remember though, from Y3 (inclusive) onwards, you'll have to submit to dealership prices in order to benefit from their 12m rolling warranty, up to 10 years.

Yep and they won't take any parts from you, genuine or not. So not only do you get ripped off on part cost, some YTS is doing a half arsed job missing bits you wanted done. I'll do it for the next service but I'm not happy about it. I'll do the rest elsewhere as warranty won't exist once I map it and do a few other things. I'm buying it to keep anyway as there's nothing else I want for a toy, except a new bike but that's a different proposition.
