GR86 No free ‘Drive Home’ Insurance after 31 October

I understand from TBO that free ‘drive home’ insurance will not be offered on any cars after 31 October.

If you collect by Tuesday, 31 October, you should get your three days of cover (if you have followed the link in your email and generated a Toyota insurance quotation).

If you are collecting on or after Wednesday, 1 November, you will not get any ‘drive home’ cover (even if you have already completed the online forms and generated a quotation).

Astonishingly, I don’t think this has been communicated to any GR86 customers, so I thought this was worth sharing with any brothers or sisters still waiting for their cars to materialise.
 
Can I ask where you got this information from? Like you say, very important for new members and absolutely ridiculous (if not expected) from Toyota GB.

It's not like Toyota to take something away without communicating it properly. People might be alarmed to find out they can't get drive away insurance.
I asked TOL about the lack of alarm and the potential consequences of an insurance claim being deemed null and void (as my insurers think it has an alarm) and they replied “sorry for any disappointment “ which totally ignored the question..

This is another black mark on the centralised sales model for them

I've already had the 'No Drive Home Insurance' experience when picking up my GR86 at the end of Sept, following the refusal of the company Toyota use to issue me with it. Bit of a surprise with a decades-long clean licence. However, it was straightforward enough to arrange for my insurance company to cover my exchange vehicle (67 plate GT86) until 10.30am on handover day and cover the new car from then on. All they need is your reg no. and a new cert can be issued in advance.
 
It's a shame it was quite handy just to have those 7 days cover, guess in case any issues at pick up.
Oh well, this on top of no bamboo key holder for later orders.
 
I've just been told this too,

But I told the online chat man that the sales team said I was entitled to it, as did the marketing material when I placed my order, so they have made an offer to treat, they said they would honour it....

That said the hurdle that stopped me was that it's not registered yet... waiting on the plate transfer from the DVLA ...

I went through the process last week, got to the end only to be told they can’t insure me. Waste of time!

Apparently if you generated a quote before October 31 (and received an email from [email protected] with a quote reference number), then you CAN speak with Toyota Insurance on 0333 103 9950 who should be able to honour the original offer of "drive home insurance", once you have a confirmed date for collection of your GR86.

Presumably you're still up the swanny without a pre-31/10 quote.

No promises, but this seems like progress from the blanket refusal earlier this week.

They told me they would honour it as I ordered before, but they told me at the time they couldn't book it until the car was registered.

In the end it was just easier to buy my own insurance, you need to do it anyway!
