I cannot get my head around the following:

I run a DTUK, but this basicly applies to all piggybags for our GR's.
They all aim for higher torque and hp's and this is accomplished by increasing the 'boost'.
Piggybags trick the ECU by modifing the original sensors. The boostsensor as well.
So how come the ECU seem to know when the real boost peaks over the set limit if the sensors are not providing the real data?
This is what seem to happen when the engine goes in limp mode when you ask too much in a specific map setting.

Any thoughts on this?

My box had zero effect on boost, with box ON or OFF boost was exactly same, maybe just affects fuel and cam angle…its main effect was to sharpen up throttle response

Are you sure it has zero effect on boost? You cannot rely on the boostgauge since it is probably tricked by the box.

edit; There are indeed boxes around which only tweeknthe trottle response, so you are probably right.
But I am referring to the boxes who are messing around to increase boost such as DTUK, DTE PowerControl, JB4, RaceChip etc.

usually boxes can add boost but cannot adjust timing. that is one of the main advantages of custom map vs. piggypack.
