A new job means that the commute has jumped from 4k per year to 18k per year! Love the car and the intention is to run it indefinitely. A looming EV through work (boooo) means that at least a third of this mileage at least should be able to be brought down for the boring commuting miles in the future which will save fuel costs and additional where and tear.
For the first 2 years (second service due in 2 weeks) it has been serviced annually (<5k miles between intervals). I can do oil changes myself at home and this is the easiest car to do that on too. For long term peace of mind I was planning to do my own oil change with genuine filter every 5k and the main service still with Toyota every 10k for the warranty. The miles now are mainly sat anywhere between 50-70mph 65 miles each way 3 days a week so they are unstressed miles. I know the additional change probably isn't needed but there is no doubt that more frequent oil changes only benefit the car, although your wallet suffers.
I have a DC5 Type R too for 4 years and this has always been run on Millers EE Performance. The car is tracked as well and never missed a beat so I have no reason to doubt it's good stuff. Other than reading online that "Millers is good oil" and allegedly better than OEM specs due to higher ester rating etc, my preference is to use this for the 5k changes. Is there any harm in flip flopping between what I assume the dealer uses as Toyota branded oil and Millers every change? I can buy a Toyota service kit with the Toyota branded oil and filter online but it's £20ish cheaper to use the Millers which other than believing the description, is meant to be the better oil.
Am I completely overthinking this and should just stick with the Toyota oil? I plan on retaining the full 100k warranty and while I doubt they could ever void the warranty by using the same grade oil from another brand I don't want to give them a get out if the worst happened.
What are your thoughts?
