GR86 Mechanics overview of GR86 vs GT86

Good to see they have improved access for changing the spark plugs and also that in his opinion the RTV isn’t too much of an issue.

He mentions not much brake fade but it was an issue with the old one any why quite a few upgrade. Perhaps they are cooled a little better so we'll see. In the UK it's less likely as it doesn't get that warm here but on track or really B road blasting it can come up

Good video, I like nice detailed break downs like this. Odd that they went to the effort of upgrading the 4th gear synchro only...in my GT86, that was probably the only shift which didn't need improvement. Second was famously crunchy when cold and my 5th/6th could be a bit notchy at times. But 3rd/4th were always fine. Not sure why they felt the need to improve 4th only, especially as most owners complained about 2nd :/

Also, rather annoying that it sounds like the rear seats now have a sensor for the seatbelt warning. I use the rear seats primarily for extra cargo space or for the dogs. Going to have to invest in some of those dummy seat belt clips it seems.

The 4th gear synchro is a common issue on cars which see lots of fast driving and/or track time as shifting from 3rd to 4th and down 5th to 4th are the most used changes. My car suffers with this issue and two other heavily tracked cars that I know of, have had gearbox repairs or replacements due to this issue. Mine is mostly fine at the moment however I know it will cause me a problem later on, although I suspect my clutch release bearing will go before the synchro. The issue is alot more commonly reported in the US however.

I don't really suffer with the 2nd gear crunch much, I did have a couple of issues with it early on. But now that I have the upgraded shift springs and get the gearbox and transmission fluid changed yearly its been fine.

Yeah mine improved greatly with Millers fluid and Mtec springs. Still hard to engage when cold but didn't crunch when it did. I'm guessing I might have to buy another set of Mtec springs for the second gen too. Not looking forward to that install again :D I'll see how it feels when I get the car.

I guess I never noticed 4th gear problems as I never went on track. Purely road driving for me, so mainly just between 3rd and 4th.
