I just had my first year's service today, and got a quote for a service plan. I asked how the cost compared to paying for the services direct and the lady said that the service plan total was about £30 cheaper, but the service plan is about £40 a month, so £480 a year, which is the cost of a major service, and some services are lower than that. I'm wondering if they've quoted too much?

Thanks

Mine is £36 a month, for 3 years, includes 3 services, one being a full fat service, 1 mot and extra 2 years of breakdown cover. Servicing costs are a bit rich for such a simple car, oil filter is child's play, it's the GR badge adds the servicing tax 🤨

Thanks. When did you take out that deal?

Thank you. So £36 a month is £432 per year for a total of £1,296. That's more than the cost of the first 3 services. That also seems expensive. It doesn't include breakdown cover does it?
Yes, according to my invoice, first year is free on new car purchase, then extra 2 years with service plan.

Mine's the same as this, taken out when I collected the car last September.

Because you will now have more expensive services in that time rather than the cheaper ones.

What's included with second service? Don't have my book to hand. I'll buy the bits beforehand and may ask them to change gearbox and diff oils too
Year 2 is a 'Full' H&S service. The manual lists the following for Replacement (R):
Engine Oil & Oil Filter.
Cabin Air Filter.
Brake Fluid.

Rear Differential Oil Replacement is listed at 20K miles or Year 4, as is the 'Inspection' of the Manual Gearbox Oil.

As long as they don't change air filter this time that's fine. Need to find that sticker. Mileage is 14k but want to do it early. Wonder if I bring my own brake fluid too they'll change it for a better one. Got pads that need to go on too.

Thanks, but that's not the answer. The monthly cost per year works out more expensive that the expensive service, so it wouldn't matter how many there are. But the answer is that the monthly payment doesn't continue for the full length of the plan, it stops earlier.

It seems that the plan I've got is the same price and if I paid for the all services, and £54 each time for an MOT. If I were to end the plan early, I'd lose out, but if I stayed until the end, I'd benefit from no price rises.

Also, looking at the plan, it seems they've planned an MOT at year 2, despite the fact that 2 year old cars don't need one.

Just taken a service agreement out today, includes the 3 services, (2 off service A, 1 off Service B) plus One MOT, Total cost £1145.00. Paid monthly.
As it happens, first service booked for next week, so now all inclusive.

For reference current A service price is £315, B service £470, MOT £54.85.

So, for me, was an easy decision, those prices will more than likely be more in the years to come !

Also, if you end the plan early, you get a refund of the unspent amount. Just did this with my wife’s Yaris,

But if the price of the service goes up in the future, when they calculate the unspent amount, do they count the cost of those new expensive services, or do they base it on the service price when you started your plan?

Because if it's the former, we're being shafted. After all, we are paying for our services in advance.

I had a service plan for 5 years on a previous vehicle and never ended up paying anything to the dealerships - although they always tried to push the 'Fuel Additive' or 'Aircon Clean' at a criminal £25 or more extra, which I obviously refused. A lot of these plans are managed by eMaC anyway, so the dealership gets its 'cut' from your balance for the work done.
