After losing Dad it's been something I've been thinking more about. Wanted to get some type of full checkup, all bloods done, any other relevant tests as I'm pretty sure some hereditary stuff will come my way eventually. Phone surgery and they don't want to know because I'm only 35, unless I have a specific concern. They expect me to tell this to a receptionist who will put me on a list where a Doctor may phone me and may decide to get me to come in. All a bit farcical, to the point if I have to pay for it, I will. I paid for a sensitivity check based on a hair sample and it picked up some things but not others which I know I have. Said I was deficient in some things so I've tweaked diet and supplemented the rest and I'll retest in a few months. Are there any good private schemes to go with instead? Last few years have totally eroded any faith I have in the NHS so want to take my destiny into my own hands. I'm still waiting to see podiatry for my feet. Three times I've booked holiday and three times they've cancelled on me.

Just be creative….

I’m 65 next birthday, when I was 55 or so I went through a period of night sweats. Saw the GP.

Next thing I know I had a series of blood tests, poo tests, urine test, xray’s and ultra sound- they didn’t find anything, butvthey basically ran a top to toe health check.

If your happy to good private, those DIY blood tests are £150 and include-

Profile Inclusions: White blood cell count, Red blood cell count, Haemoglobin level, Haematocrit, Mean cell haemoglobin concentration, Platelets, Red cell distribution width, Neutrophils, Lymphocytes, Monocytes, Eosinophils, Basophils, Sodium, Potassium, Urea, Creatinine, Protein, Globulin, Bilirubin, Alkaline phosphatase, Alanine Aminotransferase, Gamma GT, Calcium, Uric acid, Glucose, Total cholesterol, Triglycerides, HDL cholesterol, Cholesterol/HDL ratio, LDL cholesterol, UIBC Iron, Serum iron, TIBC iron, Transferrin saturation, TSH, FT4, ESR
 
I'm also 35 and been thinking of doing the same thing for a couple of reasons. I end up spending loads of money on other stuff (materialistic things like cars!) but never on myself. Private is the way to go, I wouldn't even bother with NHS and to be fair I wouldn't want to burden the already very strained service. I haven't delved too much into it but there are quite a few options out there, you might want to combine more than one 'packages'

Ditto, and same age bracket.

I have private healthcare (which has come in handy a couple of times already, most recently when I raptured my ATFL last year...) but I'm not sure it covers routine check-ups.

Very tempted to just pay for it, and if something emerges, hopefully my private healthcare would cover it.

I'm with Aviva and it's provided via my work, so there's quite a bit of saving vs self-funded insurance, plus it covers pre-existing conditions.

I've heard decent opinions about Bupa Insurance as well, but that would cost me quite a bit extra.
 
In the past I have gone privately for blood checks. the NHS doesn't want to know. It is a number game for them.
Unfortunately that number's game do claim young lives, BIL with colon cancer at just 30 was not caught on time as they kept telling him to change diet and take laxatives...

My life insurance is Aviva but only got it because I had to for the house.

And this is my main concern. After seeing how they treated Dad, the second it was deemed too costly to treat him, they gave up and left him to die "naturally" but in reality this means removing all drugs he'd normally be on and only giving pain relief. The body just gives up.
