GR86 GR86 Automatic Review

This is a video from the US but It does give some insight into the GR86 automatic for those who are genuinely interested in this option , not everyone wants a manual, so please keep any “Autos are ” comments to yourself or start a separate thread



Having tested a Blue Edition GT86 auto I didn’t find the box too slow in manual mode, not as quick as a VAG DSG but acceptable to me. What I did notice was the torque dip, which felt like a flat spot. Everything I’ve seen so far indicates that the 2.4 L engine appears to have sorted that issue out.

I believe the gearbox ratios are unchanged from the outgoing GT86, but we won’t know 100% until we get the European launch and full technical specifications.

Found this on a US GR86 site, regarding speed in 2/3 gear in a 6AT, which confirms my thinking that 2nd and 3rd will be the gears that get used on “spirited” cross country driving within the speed limits. The taller second gear may also help a bit too and with an auto no dog leg change on the two gears that will be used the most

A quite informative video on the 6AT and the presenters conclusion is that it’s not that bad at all I know the 6AT will be the far less popular option than the 6MT but for those of us who will be going this route this is an interesting video.
