Hey,
Been a lurker for quite a while - but felt like I should make this thread because (and understandably) the information and bits of advice on the internet around the GR Yaris are quite skewed to the European flavour of the GR Yaris so when I look up stuff to find out secret menu's, or features etc - the variant of car I have just never appears.
So what SKU of Yaris GR did South Africa get?
Well we 2020, South Africa got 190 GR Yaris' allocated to us from the first batch. Each one was numbered, from 1 to 190 on a special sticker.
I will need to find what it looks like on our side - as I have seen from other regions with limited number stickers they look different too.
We essentially got 2 flavours of GR Yaris:
We also got the basic GR Yaris floor mats (Part Number 08210-52V55-C0)
I believe this is a similar spec - or rather - the equipment South Africa got is similar to that of what Mexico got.
What are the major differences between the SA version and the European versions:
I am not an exact expert and treat this as a living list that I am happy for others to contribute to and I will edit it as more information gets added but so far what I can tell:
Infotainment Difference:
I think there is another person on the forum that showed it (also from South Africa I think) - link to his post:
https://www.gr-zoo.com/threads/head-unit-hidden-menu-types.3481/
Where our infotainment is like a little CRT TV (Model: Garmin LYAF20-AVS-CY20 - Part Number: P5600-BYA0G):
VS The Euro "stand up" version:
So this means the "Secret Menu" on ours either doesn't exist - or hasn't been discovered yet. Ours has touch capacitive buttons on the left hand side and the right hand side of the screen, our USB port also forms part of the head unit itself unlike the Euro version of the GR Yaris where your USB port is near the gear shifter. We just have blank plastic plates:
So if anyone knows how to access the secret menu for the Garmin version - drop it below!
Turning off ANC / ESE on the SA version
So I am struggling with this - everywhere I read online and on this forum, people recommended using Carista to turn off ANC / ESE. I ended up getting a Carista to do just that - but didn't have the option to turn it off - so the ECU wasn't offering it as an option to configure - curious.
Below are all the options available for me to configure on Carista on my vehicle (I have the non-Rally version):
Now I am not expecting to see ANC as an option because my spec of GR Yaris never came with ANC, but it does have the fake engine noise - but it not configurable through Carista (or OBD11 for what its worth).
I reached out to Carista - and they said:
"the availability of ANC and ESE settings is not dependent on your location or region. Instead, these features are only available on GR Yaris models equipped with the JBL premium speaker setup."
Which South Africa never got - which is very annoying - so a bit unsure how to turn it off now - maybe through the dealer? But that's a bit of a hassle.
USB Expansion (Via USB Hub)
Now for those of you with the infotainment on my vehicle - I tried buying a 4 port USB hub to see if I can expand the amount of USB's from the infotainment console from 1 to 4.
It didn't work.
The hub powered on, and delivered power to the USB thumb drive (The light flashed), but did not read the drive, the headunit wasn't even detecting the thumb drive. The thumb drive worked just fine, when plugged into the USB port itself, but not the hub.
I did catch a glance of a message that appeared on the screen that said something like "No Hub Support!!!" - will try grab an image of it.
Toyota OEM Accessories Offered
So we did not get a large selection of accessories you could get with the GR Yaris - we got:
I am happy to add more information that people can contribute - this is by no means a comprehensive, all inclusive list - but happy for it to be if people can help me fill in the blanks - or if there are tips / options available on ours that's not available to others.

- The location of the USB port
