Feel free to share any tips on this thread and help others when you can.

Something that we all do, myself included from time to time is add images using the attach files. This will add a thumbnail and not the full image to your post.
'Attach files' is better option if you are uploading a document such as a brochure that's a PDF file.

So using the same file this is what happens when you use the 'attach files' option.

If you use the 'Insert image' icon, you'll get the following outcome (both files are the same).

For those who are able, also try and resize the image before you upload. Ideally images that are below 1MB in size are better for the forum from a speed and also storage point of view.

The image in the earlier post is just under 2MB, the same image after it's been resized (below) is 1MB with no obvious difference in quality on the forum.

Images can be re-sized in Paintshop Pro, Photoshop etc if you have them, but if you don't then Google image resizer, where you'll find lots online too, mostly free. When given the option choose jpg rather than png, because the files are generally smaller.
