GR86 First Service? I Have No Words

Vistalite

Totally Hooked
Four weeks ago:-

Ring ring ring . . . . .

Them: Good day Sir, can I book you in for your first service?
Me: Why of course! By the way, can you make sure you have an oil filter available please as I have heard that they were difficult to obtain a few months ago?
Them: We were not aware of this, we will check and ensure this is in stock for your visit.
Me: Thank you.

Today:-
Them: Good day Sir, I am afraid that we will not be able to carry out your service tomorrow as . . .
Me: the oil filter isn't in stock?
Them: that is corr . . .
Me: I am not blaming you per se but I specifically mentioned this etc, etc, rant rant rant.

As the title: I have no words 😖

It is still happening Guys.

They are useless. My Corolla went in for service last week. When I booked it in a month beforehand they asked if there were any problems than needed looking at. I said the door squeaks.
Roll forward to service day. They asked me if there were any problems with the car and I said yes, I mentioned it when I booked. Sorry sir we don’t have that info written down here.

Absolute waste of time.

Another moan at Toyota here.

Service 2 years ago, can you replace my GRY door seal on warranty, yes approved. Part could take a while as supply issues, not a problem.

Phone call whilst on holiday parts arrived, cool I’ll call you when back, called - sorry sir we’ve sent it back we only keep parts a week you will have to start the process again.

So last service did just that (March time) again approved and I’m still here waiting for a call. I’m not going to chase their incompetence but in that time I’ve had 2 text messages saying they look forward to having my car in for service????

Great cars shit after sales and I’ve tried 2 dealerships. Sales on the other hand could not be bettered by any brand.

It's why I buy the oil and filter myself beforehand and only pay them for the labour.
I've also made the decision to supply the oil for my next service. The dealership is happy for me to do this. I'm on a service plan , not sure if I will receive a discount as I'm supplying the oil ?. I will ask the question when I book my next service. Very much doubt it, but if you don't ask you don't get

Normally when I get the call for service, they try to sell me additional bolt on's which aren't covered by the service plan.
I'm just happy there was no delay with the oil filter last time.

I tried this, and got changed for the oil. There is a set price which the dealer invoices the service plan company. I phoned them to check.

The dealer who supplied my car didn’t even bother to contact me saying the first service was due. I was minded to take my car to a local independent anyway during the first 3 years so the lack of contact just helped my decision.

Same here. I actually tried my hardest to buy a Service Plan with Toyota, but they just weren't interested in helping me. The car was 9 months old with 37 delivery miles and hadn't turned a wheel since it left the dealership - Toyota bluntly custard-pied me saying, "No, it can't be done as a plan wasn't taken out by the initial buyer within the 90 day timeframe". Go figure 🤷‍♂️

I think the Toyota fixed price service cost is way too expensive for what is essentially an oil and filter change.
I've got the same dilemma with the Lexus we bought... Zero saving on the RRP for the services I'll get over the three years If I take out the plan plus I have to pay £285 for each of the two intermediate services that in reality are an oil and filter change and a "vehicle check".

I was about to phone to take out the plan but I'm now having second thoughts... I can probably save around £400 at least over the three years by using an independent in the first three years and not invalidate the warranty BUT will a full Lexus dealer service history carry any weight when it comes to changing the car if I sell privately?

In my opinion yes, if there were two identical cars one with dealer servicing and one with independent servicing, I would always opt for the dealer servicing. I would personally not buy a 3 or 4 year old car if it had independent servicing

No I don't think it will. Whether it's advertised as FSH or FDSH it doesn't really matter, the main bit is the letter F. It's a subject that's been discussed to death on motoring websites and forums and ultimately it's inconclusive.

The bloke at the front of the line may not buy your car with indy servicing but the guy behind him will.

A full dealer service history is probably nice to have but it wouldn’t bother me if a car I was buying had been serviced by an independent, especially if it was a few years old. I’m always surprised to see cars for sale that are 10 years old or more having a full dealer service history, I view that as a bit of a waste of money considering what a rip off some main dealers charges can be.

I’m the opposite with Toyota anyway.
If I had choice of buying a car with the remainder of a 10 year warranty than one without anything with I would choose the warrantied one.

Agreed, but isn’t it the case that each subsequent service by Toyota gives you a year’s warranty anyway, regardless of who’s serviced it previously?
