GR86 First Service? I Have No Words

Agreed, but isn’t it the case that each subsequent service by Toyota gives you a year’s warranty anyway, regardless of who’s serviced it previously?

That’s my understanding. You could technically service at an independent for the first three years, whilst maintaining manufacturer’s warranty coverage, then switch to dealer servicing, which activates a subsequent year of warranty up to ten years.

Yes I think so but not sure if any exclusions due to work not being done previously.

Yes, it’s only one year at a time from the date of each Toyota service; almost like a 12m service guarantee. I guess you could alternate between independent and dealership, maximise your savings and keep your fingers crossed that all’s well during the independent year’s service? All vat registered garages will use Toyota parts if you tell them it’s a Warranty service. That said, even on our Corsa we had zero warranty issues in six years, I’d hope Toyota would be a bit more reliable than Vauxhall too 🤷‍♂️
In the grand scheme of things though, it’s a couple of hundred quid extra for peace of mind. I’ll be returning to main dealership servicing from Y3 onwards until I sell the car.

I only did 2500 miles in my first year as the GR isn’t my only car, I’ll probably carry on using the independent even after the first 3 years and maybe go back to Toyota as the car gets older, assuming I’ve still got it.

Yeah that's right, it's an additional 12 month warranty upto 10 years old.

You qualify for a 12 month warranty if it's serviced at Toyota, if there are gaps in Toyota servicing it doesn't matter, just means you aren't covered for that year.
