Having fitted the Focal front speakers and being happy with them, I'm now (mission creep ahoy!) wondering what the options are for fitting a little sub to fill out the bottom end a bit more?

Are there any plug-and-play-ish options that don't involve too much interior disassembly (hate it) or cable splicing?

Car is a Europe-spec High Performance, so Circuit Pack in terms of audio, no JBL.

I'm not really looking for a full-blown active crossover/DSP solution, just a little thing that can sit under the seat or in the boot that I could fit in an hour or so.

Or maybe all I need to do is do the Focal rears too? 🤔

I'm interested in this also. Subwoofer installs seem to be more common in GRCs (particularly in the USA) and they use much the same stock audio system as GRYs.

You'll need to replace the under-seat amp as a minimum to something with a dedicated sub output, that's where I'd start looking.

I have the front focals with tweeters and they made a nice improvement. I often read feedback that fitting the rear focals doesn't improve the audio very much.

I'm just looking into the same type of setup as you with the front Focals plus an Alpine SWE-815 active sub in the boot. They seem reasonably sized and shouldn't require too much wiring, with the battery being in the boot as well.

I fitted one of these https://pioneer-car.eu/uk/ts-wx010a/ts-wx010a in my GR86.

Its designed to fit in the footwell. Power comes from the fusebox rather than the battery making it easier to fit. Its not really powerful or loud, just enough to round out the sound for me. I have the PUZU amp/dsp and FOCAL door/dash speaker upgrade as well. Alot of 86 owners have done that upgrade.

See my post for a pic in the footwell.

In my opinion, it's not worth swapping out the rear speakers if using the standard head unit as the source. There's a massive EQ cut on the output to the rears so they sound really quiet and tinny, even with the Focal replacements fitted. it's not worth the hassle of rear seat and trim removal etc. The most they do is fill out the sound a little with higher frequencies.

I have the Alpine PWD-X5 amp under the front seat, and even if I crank the EQ on the signal to the rear channels, it's poor. If Bluetoothing direct to the amp it's a different story and full power gets sent through, but that's not much use for Carplay.

I'm running full focal setup with a DSP but am feeling that lack of low end. Might look into the Kenwood/Pioneer underseat options, quite cost effective at under £150
