I know there was a thread on it before. I have one but been months since Mika has been in the 86 so I'm pretty sure he's outgrown it. What are people using? He was 1 yesterday.

I've got an Amazon rear bench cover permanently mounted on the rear seats, I cut the middle part of it out so it tucks nearly around the centre console. I'll try and get a pic later if you want.
My dogs don't come in the car often, but when they do, I then just stick a cheap fleece throw over that to give them some padding to lay on and that seems to keep them comfy. Also keep a generic front seat cover in the boot as Oscar, our collie cross, likes to sit up front and watch what's going on.

If you could. I'm possibly heading to a Shiba meet tomorrow which is about 3hrs away so too far for my old Swift to comfortably do it. Plus we've got longer trips planned for later this year. This time I'll drop the seats and fill it full of old towels too to be sure. Have attempted to get him to sit on the front seat in the Swift but he was having none of it. He molts so don't want that in the front.

I have a Swift but I don't trust it more than local stuff. It will be replaced eventually but was my parents old car so for sentimental reasons I want to keep it as long as I can.
Used to have a combination of generic rear seat cover, old cushions to fill in the rear seat hollows, a plank to give a level (ish) base and a piece of vet bed. Worked, but was not brilliant so decided to do something a bit better:
Kept the seat cover / hammock:
6mm mdf board, cut to fit so it rests on the side and fits in the gap between seat and seat back on top (to try and stop it scuffing the interior):
Covered with vet bed, gave a firm enough base for our lab:
55 mile drive last night to test:
Happy, comfy dog, room to lie / move and be able to see what’s going on, result !

This is how he is currently. It seems to work but isn't rigid enough so he does move about a bit too much. There's a zip on the corner so when I drop the seat to chuck him in I do the zip up, clips and lead on the head rest and he's in. Always looking for something better as were due a big trip to Anglesey next month if anyone has any new suggestions. Like the MDF idea though. Means seats up and less exhaust drone. He doesn't mind it. He's done a mix of journeys this week, probably 200 miles on Welsh A and B roads and he either slept or rested his head on the passenger seat. And no sickness which is always a bonus. He only moves if I have to accelerate hard or forget he's there and flick into a corner a bit hard

We use car safe, like Millik above, which is crash tested for 30mph (I doubt any solution is really safe for higher speeds, but seeing as its the only brand that boasts tests and certifications is good enough for me).
It stops our dogs from moving, as they're strapped to the seatbelt and the pull is enough to keep them in place. Mine are quite small though, as they're 8 and 11kg.

He uses a good harness most of the time. He isn't in one in that photo as it was full of mud in the boot as we'd not long done a mountain. The tricky bit was always securing when seats are down. I either use the headrest or where the rear seat would clip into when up. That's what I do when the journey is a longer one. I'd like a proper box but the 86 isn't the car for that really.

Give me chance to correct it before deleting. Uploading from phone but browsing from PC.
Will try and look at that MDF option and find a sheet to go over like that. Probably one of the better options. Or sheet only and shorten the leash so he has to curl up in the seat base.
