Did anyone know if someone tried this yet.

When I was driving back from work a few days ago I was thinking about the GRY and it's potential build options. I kinda liked the idea of a bit more rugged version. More suspension travel, bit more ground clearance (1-2 cm), beam lights and so on. I would be interested to see a more rally focused GRY in all these track car builds.

What do you think?
 
Haha did some digging. It's actually been done. But with the old fwd Yaris.

You can even find something on YouTube. Not really what came to my mind but sure is kinda funny. But I didn't meant a cross over more a reallyish build. 😆 🤣

Check out GR Yaris Rally2 ground clearance - it looks wonderful.
 
There are rally suspensions out for sale (Reiger, Bos, Bigem), but the ones that increase ride height properly are not cheap (10k+ €)

BOS is maybe the only one that can increase height a little from current consumer grade offerings (https://www.gr-zoo.com/threads/coilovers.2341/) but no TüV and rebuild in France for me... Bigem have a dealer in Sweden and have cheaper kits, but my car is a daily, not a project fun car that can be off the road for weeks for development fun....

German KW own Reiger and KW say they are open for development suggestions. I like KWs stainless steel build and that they don't need to be rebuilt in their consumer grade sets. So a v3 with slightly increased travel (=longer shocks) and spring rates similar to stock (increased bump performance due to added travel) would be great. Even better if they could add hydraulic bump stops, but that's maybe too much, so one can do a little jumping with good conscience.... But if they can do HBS at a reasonable price and reliability that would be really cool, I had them on my lowered GT86 and the speed I could do over speedbumps was indecent (for what is normally expected of a lowered car....)

I've also considered 245/45R17 tyres that increase ground clearance with about 1cm, probably my first next step....

If you guys that need TüV are genuinely interested to buy, maybe put forward the suggestion to KW....

Bigem starts under 4k and has longer travel and adjustable higher than stock car...
 
BOS have the three kits especially designed for the GRY. They are cooperating with Gazoo ins WRC as far as I know.

The gravel and tarmac kits seem to be extremely potent but come at a hefty price. About 15.600.

It seems to be far more easy to build a gry for track use than for some rally cross. :D

What else would be necessary to get the little bastard to rock the gravel? Skid plates or some other underbody treatments would be useful I think. Maybe some wider track?

I don't think its really that high science. of course spring rates depend on the shocks, but you could get a baseline from BOS for example (or ask the manufacturer what they would recommend) - and then adjust if necesssary. Front springs of course takes more effort to change.
