Hi guys/girls, has this happened to anyone else?

Coming along the motorway on Monday dropped it down a gear from 6th to 5th to overtake, must’ve been going 60mph. As i lifted my foot up of the clutch the revs went up to 6000rpm, a little bit shocked believing i had engaged 3rd instead. I then slowly popped it back into 6th again revs went up again(wh@t the feck). Dropped the revs and re-engaged 6th all was good.
Now to today on the way home again on the motorway changed from 4th to 5th started to accelerate this time definite clutch slip, rev’s up and you could smell the clutch.

just under 11000 miles & not tracked

For your and everyone's sake, I hope it's a uncommon occurrence of a rear main seal leak causing it, which should be a warranty case.

Mmm, i’ll see if it does it again if so then off to Toyota

Since its not doing it all the time its unlikely to be worn. Possibly contamination. Job for your dealer I would think.

Certainly not something I've experienced, and not heard of anyone else with this issue...

Hi @Orion, I’ve had nothing like this happen since.
Good to hear that -- that might be the best possible outcome :D
How many miles did you put on the car since, if I may ask?

Myself, I had two separate occasions recently, when I was in 6th gear and my clutch slipped on hard acceleration. First time ~4kRPM (~torque max) and slipped till ~4500 then all good, and one day later it quickly slipped from 4000RPM until 6000RPM when I backed off. Drove ~ 200km since, trying to reproduce, no issues yet.
The car is at 59.000km (36.661 miles), is fully stock, with ~ 2000 track km (26 trackdays on a short track with lots of gear changes between 2nd and 3rd -- but my clutch never slipped on track and definitely there was no clutch smell)
Mine could be a worn clutch, but based on usage and feel, I was hoping it would have another 50-100.000 km life in it :D
Lets see... :D

Like brake friction, clutch friction isn't actually constant. It can vary quite a lot based on temperature, moist/condensation and perhaps some small lubricant traces/drops/mist on the surfaces....

E.g. one guy saying "it didn't slip with 600Nm all good" thus doesn't mean it will work for everyone all the time...

14200ish miles on her now, mostly varied normal driving a few spirited drives. 🤞as I said not happened since.

Don’t take it the wrong way but glad its happened to someone else😀, I did start thinking maybe it was me-lazy left foot resting on the clutch

My clutch is definitely slipping. First started in 6th gear once the boost built up, but now sometimes doing the same in 5th gear as well -- not tried much, hoping the dual mass flywheel can be saved.
In for service next Tuesday, we'll see if its covered by warranty after inspection.

The car is at 60.000km, loving it although in my opinion it has the worst clutch ever (pedal feel, modulation, so easy to burn) -- definitely a weak point for me.
Had burnt clutch smell more than I wanted to, especially in slow uphill traffic.
Did 2500km on track and launched from 3-4000RPM at every traffic light, but it never smelled. Probably thats why I expected it to last a lot longer.

So far I havent found any reliable streetable alternative, with similar or better pedal feel and maybe a bit better heat resistance. A sprung kevlar full faced clutch disc, if it existed...

So had my first clutch change at 60.600km, remained OEM for now

As previously stated, seen ~2.500 track km, ~2.000 launches from 3500-4500RPM (quick slip, no sidestep) during almost 3 years of daily spirited driving

DMF needed change as it and also the pressure plate had hairline cracks on outter edges just where both sides of the clutch disc had extra wear
DMF damping/play was good otherwise...

Pressure plate auto adjuster at its limit...
I wonder if the DMF hairline cracks (only on outter 1cm of its surface) were a result of pressure plate adjuster reaching its limit and not being able to support anymore...?

Edit: forgot to attach the images...

60,000 km with that kind of (ab)use is very healthy. Good to know!

I was in a way always trying to be sensible... I never had a burnt clutch smell or any harsh noise during these launches -- except for a very few cases when I screw it up.
If you *really* abuse it, people have destroyed their clutches in a fraction of this mileage

I did burn my clutch a dozen or two times, though, part while getting accustomed to it, while in standstill uphill traffic or reversing uphill or just unintentionally riding the clutch a few times...
Maybe if I had less of these, my flywheel wouldn't need to be replaced

Oh, and stock power, stock wheel sizes

Yes, when someone like the OP reports a clutch gone in 11,000 miles you wonder; hard life, or mechanical fault?

My clutch has started slipping. Full noise in 4, 5 or 6 once the engine gets to 3,500 the engine flares for a second or two. Time to look at clutch options. 50,000km. Some of those weren't abuse.
