Will you ceramic coat your car?

Very helpful thanks so much for this write up.

Is the crystal serum supposed to last longer than 6m?

I think Wills post may come across a little confusing, Exo is the product on top of the Serum, that is what tails off quickly., The latest version Exo has a durability of upto 24months max. The Serum has a long life span and is still there but does not give the hydrophobic properties, Exo does that.

I've editted my previous post, to make it easier to understand and I added a couple of links to the G-Techniq website, explaining each coating.

All sounds very expensive and like too much hard work, having to reapply the top coat regularly, for quite small benefits.

I think I'll just spend the money on getting someone decent to wash the car regularly (not me, or the local hand car wash!).

Not really, yes expensive but less work, as you don't have to apply product as regularly as a conventional a wax or sealant, nor do you have to have the whole car machine polished to correct defects.

Of course it all depends on how much you care about your paintwork. Some of us are a bit insane and want it looking immaculate for years to come, others really couldn't care less if their car is swirl and scratch city. Each to their own.

So when I collected my GR Yaris back in feb the dealer had put the GEN 3 coating on without asking me, I was not to bothered but didn’t pay for it.
Got to say it does make cleaning pretty easy, a quick wash of a snow foam then rinse off gets the job mostly done.
Have to say I would not pay a dealership to do a ceramic coat at what they charge I would definitely go to a specialist.

I'm guessing you won't want to just 3M your duckbill on if you've already ceramic coated your car?

Worth thinking about for people planning on taking the car straight to their detailer on collection from the dealer.

What about if there are paint imperfections on your new car and you ask a for protection film to left on. They can turn around a say you damaged the paint when removing the film as they haven’t done full pre delivery inspection 🧐. Just putting it out there….

This is something I've thought about but is unlikely. Cars can get damaged during transport which is a concern too. Last few days I've more been thinking of going the traditional route and wax and seal it myself. They can take the roof and rear ones off but leave front bumper so I can get it home. A friend has recommended the Soft99 Fusso Wax which isn't really a wax, more a polymer sealant from Japan that lasts about 12mths. Bit of prep needed before and I'll have to tape up trim bits but he's been impressed with it. There's also nothing nicer than detailing a new car yourself. Starting down that rabbit hole is fun too. With it being blue I'm looking into glazes and glass sealants too.

Interesting point you make. If it’s actually an imperfection in the paint that’s one matter , if it’s a scratch or a ding then you are correct , they could argue it occurred after it left the dealership 🤷‍♂️

The cars should have been through a quality control check at the factory. Leaving the transport stickers on can be a slight risk but the chances are, any minor scratches etc will be removed by a detailer anyway. If there is a genuine paint defect, it should be easy enough to prove that it’s a factory defect rather than damage caused by anything else.

I hope im in the right thread!! I got a quote from a local company for a ceramic coating (company does a lot of high end work and all 5 star reviews)

3 coat Gtechniq ceramic coating (guaranteed for 5 years)
Wheels 3 coats
All glass treated
Interior treated with gtechniq products (leather, plastics etc)
loan car while work is carried out (seems to take 3 days or so)

I have no doubt they will do an amazing job but does £1000 plus Vat sound about right? I totally get that I am paying a professional and there is a cost involved with that.

No that is expensive. I would expect some degree of paint correction involved for £1k +VAT

Thanks ZN8, the actual full list is as below, really appreciate your input

Snow Foam Pre wash & Iron Deposit Removal

2 bucket wash

Full Clay Bar

Bodywork Contamination Removal

Wheel Contamination removal

Glass Polish & Sealant

Paintwork is machine polished to enhance the finish ready for the protection coating, if full correction is required this is additional cost at Ј50.00 per hour until complete on top of the standard pricing and must be discussed before booking in.

Panel Wipe Strip Down to remove oils and polish residue

Anything from Crystal Serum light, Serum Ultra or C1 is applied (depending on what you have requested) followed by 1-2 coats of Exo and finally C2V3 the morning it leaves as a transport coat

Wheel Armour is applied

Trim Dressing

Long life tyre care

Gtechniq Leather And Interior Trims Protection added to leather seats, steering wheel, door card arm rests & gear stick gator

Light engine clean to revive appearance

Custom Gtechniq & Cambridge Concours Aftercare Kit

It does seem slightly on the high side as it’s effectively a new car detail, which most companies will offer for a little less.
If the interior, wheels & glass are all being done, then £1,000 wouldn’t be too bad, if £1,200 is the overall price then I’d expect the best of jobs being done.

Glass and interior can be done very easily at home (with Gtechniq products),I’ve just done my interior today and it was quick and easy so you could save yourself a bit of money there.
Wheels are fairly easy to do but then you have the faff of taking them off and making sure they’re 100% clean first so I’d get the retailers to do them.

My ceramic coating 5 year.... new car detail, PPF front 1/4, wheels and glass is £1350 including vat.... so I think its in the right ballpark to be fair. You pay for what you get in this life quite often.... pay for reputation and the fact they actually care etc.

Plus you got a loan car... that's worth a little bit too.

Mine didn't charge for the correction and did front end, skirts and some bits of the back end for £1500. Used my ceramic on the body, KKD Revolve on the wheels which makes cleaning effortless. I'm happy with that as it's someone I trust and the next few washes will be free too. Think he enjoyed doing it as much as I was with the end result. I'll no doubt get the rest done as time goes on but one side of rear 1/4 and door is like a grand

Had quotes for ceramic from 2 shops recommended here (thanks all)!

Ones a offering titan, and the other is offering Gen3 glasscoat. There is a bit of a price difference, but willing to pay for a better result.

Any one got any experience with the two - Assuming both detailers are equally skilled.

Had gen 3 fusion applied to my supra before collection from main dealer. It's been back and re applied again and still useless . Now the dealer is telling me I have to complain directly to Gen 3. Said they would forward my number and some one would be in touch . Nothing absolutely disgusted.
