GR86 Centre Console USB issues

Afternoon all,

Not something I've heard of before but my 86 is currently back with Jemca Bracknell as both my centre console USB ports have stopped functioning.

Both were working and then both stopped suddenly. I presumed likely a fuse or something however this appears not to be the case, and they've asked to keep the car into tomorrow to try other fixes... anyone else had any usb trouble?

On a previous vehicle the current draw from my new ‘large screen’ iPhone was simply too much for the USB socket and it fried.
Even in modern cars sometimes the USB sockets can’t keep up with the power demands of newer phones and they just disconnect. Now on a large iPhone 14 I tend to use a 12v socket for power/charging and BT/Wireless for connectivity in every car.

You aren't the first with this issue, I am also certain someone else had an issue with one of their USB ports which the dealer sorted for them, someone else had them both drop out and come back.
 
(Touch wood) no problems for me so far, but I don't use either port for my phone. I've got a 64GB USB drive permanently* parked in one of my ports so I assume that won't draw any current to speak of.

*Apart from being removed to upload new albums. My I recommend, from this very week, The National's surprise new album release Laugh Track.

 
Update - got car back. Still not fixed. New USB thingy not arriving till mid October.

What can ya do... fortunately I know my way to Caffeine and Machine on Sunday!

Laugh Track ft. Phoebe Bridges is superb. Just listened to the whole album on this afternoon's dog walk.
