@Sonic the c-tec exhaust is 1.8kg lighter than the oem one. It is on the first post of this thread 😉
Talking about system weights specifically. Please note, we have the OEM system weight @ 16.2kg whereas Cobra list the OEM weight @ 17.72kg, so weight savings will vary from this rather significant variance alone. Our stated weight saving of 1.8kg would equate to a 3.5kg weight saving if you take Cobra's claimed OEM weight.

Then you need to take into consideration the differences in our system versus the 2x Cobra systems. We initially tested with a resonator, but dropped this altogether as it affected both exhaust volume and exhaust note negatively. We also changed the entry and exit points into the rear silencers for the final spec, for exhaust note purposes.

Neither of the Cobra silencer configuration options can be compared to the C-TEC system, we have no resonator (centre silencer) and we have two rear silencers, versus the single (smaller) silencer the Cobra system uses. Therefore, it is fair to expect that the C-TEC system would weigh in more than the heavier option of the 2x Cobra systems (resonated). However, Cobra list their resonated system @ 15.53kg which is actually 1.13kg heavier than the C-TEC system. Given the unresonated Cobra system has a single smaller rear silencer versus the C-TEC twin rear silencer design, it is fair to expect a weight saving with the Cobra system. C-TEC system 14.4kg Cobra claimed weight 12.64kg.

It is worth noting that the OEM system and C-TEC system weights we have, were measured with customers present. A number of those customers are Zoo members, one of which being a Zoo moderator.

@ctecperformance after experiencing your system on Lees car earlier today I’d like to take advantage of the early bird offer please! Sounded fantastic 👍
Brilliant, thanks for your order Mark. We've been chatting via DM for some time now, so I'm really pleased to hear the system was everything you were hoping it would be. Thanks for choosing C-TEC.

Massive thanks to Lee La3195 for taking the time over a weekend to meet up with you today, to demo his system. It's members like Lee that make a great forum greater. It is really appreciated 👍

Does anyone know how this compares to the HKS spec L11. Looking for something that is not too noisy. Also that fact it s not resonated. Does this not impact drone.
Finally is there anyone with this system reasonably near to Southampton that I could have a listen to.

This is not a noisy system, we were very careful to produce a system that suits the GR86. This is a Sports exhaust, it makes all the right noises when you'd want them, but it's a system you can enjoy as a daily too.

We initially tested with a centre resonater, and this muted the volume and exhaust note. The owner (mature in years) asked us to remove and we 100% agreed. We don't offer a resonated option now as it's too close to OEM sound. Please bear in mind the UK GR86 has both cat and GPF, which both effect exhaust volume. Our system has been designed to produce a sports exhaust note on the UK Spec system.

No centre resonator on our system does not result in resonance or drone.

I think the closest system to you is in the Kent area. The owner is a member and moderator on here. I know he'd be happy to share his views on the C-TEC system.

Thank you for your reply. I would like to go ahead and order the exhaust with 4.5 inch black end. I am assuming the price will still be as per the early offer.
Please advise how you would like to contact for payment etc..

Thanks for your order Peter, yes the early bird discount is still available. Please keep the orders coming everyone 👍

I'll drop you a DM on here so we can finalise things.

We've received another order today for our C-TEC GR86 system, taking advantage of the Zoo members early bird offer.

The plan is to use this as a good excuse for a mini meet up at C-TEC Performance for a group install session  The provisional date for this is Saturday 5th October. As it stands, it's looking like 3x GR86 and 1x GR Yaris with us for installs, with a further 2x GR86 orders still to confirm whether they can make this date too.

Any Zoo members who are contemplating a C-TEC system, please contact me direct via DM to register your interest. This could be a good opportunity to see the C-TEC fabrication quality up close and personal, plus get to hear just how nice this system sounds. I'm sure there would be road demos available too. It's not often you get the chance of a comprehensive preview before making an exhaust system purchase. Zoo members are very welcome to join us to take out the guesswork before making a system purchase.

Mine is getting done this day. I can’t wait. I’ll try and get a moving video done once fitted.

An update from me, I had the @ctecperformance C-TEC cat back exhaust fitted by the very friendly and professional guys at C-TEC on the 5th Sept so I've had it a week+ and done several hundred miles with it including the drive back from the sunny (on the day!) C-TEC HQ in South Yorks back to Hampshire via London.
So my personal thoughts:
- Its build quality is exceptional, I dont know a lot about welding but its a shame to hide the exhaust under the car when the joints and material looked so nice.
- The guys at C-TEC are great, they know their stuff and really want you to be a happy customer, their enthusiasm for their own products but also cars in general is impressive, almost as impressive as the array of rare Japanese rally based cars (EVO TM, Impreza STi's etc)
- Long drive = zero drone, you are aware of the exhaust being there but its not intrusive or in any way loud, in fact the general road noise in the 86 is lounder than the exhaust at 70-80mph, when under load at that speed there is the note coming through which you notice but its again not a drone.
- Low speeds/town - driving gently then there is just a subtle deeper pitch to the exhaust which means you can go down a high street without looking like you're on your way to a retail park McDonalds.
- On partial acceleration - A nice deeper sound, my favourite is 2,550-5,000 rpm where you get a nice growl that has elements of the flat 4 note to it which I really like. Above 5,500 the engine / induction sound probably equals the exhaust so its not a blaring top end but has a sporty sound.
- Warm idle - subtle sports note, bass and element of flat 4 rumble but wont upset neighbours and sounds good
- Cold start - loud, nothing can be done about that, it is what it is, for about 20 seconds there is a loud bass heavy blare from the exhaust while the car sorts itself out, then it drops down nicely to the warm idle levels.
- Spirited driving - spot on, has the low and mid range volume and tone that I wanted, make you feel like you're driving a sports car.

Summary:
Described to me as the 'goldilocks' exhaust, and I'd agree. It has added a 3rd dimension to the 86 which was sadly missing before, it has for the first time in 18 months of ownership made me find fun long ways home, and in itself elevated the enjoyment of the car from 'meh' to 'yeh'! I've been critical of the 86 as feel it has several flaws that drove me to the edge of selling it but the C-TEC has done more for the driving experience than the sum of the parts. Yes its not the cheapest one out there and I havent heard in person any others, but for me I am happy and feel its the sound the 86 should have always had. :)

ps - I did take a few video clips from behind on cold and warm start but the iphone didnt represent the actual sound well at all so I'll post something when I can get some sort of representative sounds from a recording.

@SJR202 Thanks ever so much for taking the time to post your very kind feedback regarding your purchase/install experience with us. In addition, what can I say to such a detailed review of your new C-TEC GR86 system, other than a massive thanks for taking the time to share such a thorough account of your first week with the system fitted.

We have genuinely put a huge amount of time, effort and investment into taking this from an idea stage, through design and prototype, first install and testing, system revisions to tune exhaust note and volume, accurate jig production to ensure retail fabrication quality and fitment accuracy, first retail spec batch production and installs on GRZoo member cars for real world owner feedback......and then, and only at that stage did we roll out a product announcement on GRZoo.

The result is an extremely well designed, premium fabrication quality, hand made British product which truly enhances the GR86 driving experience.

After 3 weeks and some 1,200+ miles I thought I’d share my thoughts on the system. I’ve done all types of driving imaginable since having it install from driving across the Yorkshire Dales to traffic on the M25.

The first thing to says is that what everyone says here is true; it really is that sweet spot that’s not too loud but still adds to the driving experience. It matches the personality of the car perfectly.

When researching systems I was quite picky about pitch, I didn’t want it to have the buzz of a WRX for example. This system delivers the tasteful sports car tone I was looking for, partially up to about 5,000rpm. Great even if you only do some fast road driving.

The exhaust is audible at motorway speeds but in my testing only actually adds 1-2db. It’s loud on cold starts for about 15 seconds but there’s not much to be done about that. The noise in traffic isn't a problem at all.

The only thing I would change is the exhaust tip finishers. They are separate from the rest of the system so can be removed and adjusted in and out as desired which is great but I’d love to see a different version with thicker walls and less chrome more matte silver finish similar to the stock finishers. That’s just a personal preference though.

The C-TEC team clearly know what they are doing with engineering and fitting to and very high standard. A great experience, highly recommend.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Harrison. Really pleased to hear that you feel the C-TEC system hits the sweet spot for the GR86.

It is great to hear so many positive comments about fabrication quality, perfect fitment, and an exhaust note and volume which suits the essence of GR86.
