News Brief Forum Update

Thanks to all who have joined the 'zoo since we went live on December 6th.

Your support has been great and confirmed our belief that although difficult, creating this new forum was the right thing to do for the long term. Annoying random advertising and a premium subscription section will not be happening here, assuming we can cover our future running costs.

Financial donations and your support so far have covered our initial start-up costs, but please don't stop donating because we want to create a solid base for the longer term. If you can, then please inform and introduce other GR owners of our existence. For this forum to be viable longer term then we need to welcome GR Supra, GR Yaris, GR86 and GR Corolla owners too. For sceptics we are not in this for the money and should we receive an offer, we have no desire to sell. After all, all mods are also GR owners!

Next steps in '22 will be to ensure the forum is financially secure, stable, improve overall forum usability (incl a 'dark theme') and do various regional meet-ups, driving days and events.

Just bumping this thread to the top because a few things have progressed since Christmas (remember the snow theme).

The much requested Dark Theme™ is now in place and appears to be working as intended. For those that don't know, you can scroll to the bottom of the forum page where you will find a 'style chooser' link called GR Zoo and this will allow you to choose between the standard or GR Zoo Dark themes. With thanks to @MasterVentris for working with us and to make this happen.

Prefix tags for car types are now forum wide with the exception of the GR Zone to make navigation easier. We are looking to see if these can also be filtered or clickable, again to make the forum easier to use. If we don't implement this, it's due to cost but further investigation is ongoing.

Media is now easier to embed from other websites, allowing you to easily embed a post from Instagram by copying and pasting the web URL into the post, and the forum is also now on Instagram to show off pictures from the forum and to find new members and owners who may not know of our existence.

The forum layout may change in the future, again with the intention to make it a better experience for all. Fonts and general styling will also be looked at, but any changes will be a gradual evolution of what we have already. We want to create our own path and not be a copycat forum.

Events in the UK both local and National are already in the works with more to be announced soon. If you can attend these then it's a great way to meet fellow GR members and look at different upgrades that we all seem to be so obsessed with, as well take a look at other GR models of course. Thank you to our members based abroad, hopefully we can do something in the future.

I hope this is an ok place for this reply, but I have two very minor requests/suggestions, now that I’ve bitten the nasty bullet and moved from the old place:

1. Can the dark skin be updated so that the top banner is dark too, not white?

2. Can the “GR Zone“ be added to the forum list on the forum start page? (Currently this is only the five car specific forums, plus “GR News”.)
