GR Yaris Blind ordered...

Ordered without test drive but went and looked at one for half an hour so I could sit in it to make sure my "ample" frame fit OK - and it did.
I have had quite a few 2 door hot hatches so I knew they are not very practical and what the negative points were going to be.
For a family person who wants to take gran out with the kids then NO it won't do. As a small 2 door car with hardly any boot and just the two adults in it then it is fabulous fun and that is all I wanted from it so for me it really is a keeper - but I have a 4 door city car for the drudgery journeys that need doing.
Get it, use it and decide whether it is for you and sell if not.
Many people will be doing that as the pressure to buy was so great and many did with tinted glasses on and now realise it might be fantastice but not great for every day unless you are just a couple with possibly another more realistic car to use.
You will love it - promise!

Wow that rs32 were beasts. The 2JZ was a great engine, true but more on a drag/power purpose. The RB26 and RB32 was a true racing bred. Really interesting engine and history behind that. Never was able to try one, though. Must be a blast. 😮

The Kaira had 26 right?

Right. It was a high modded RB26DETT.
The nice thing was at the same time my brother had a Supra with 2JZ... oh nice time...

😂 although perhaps skis have shrunk over the last twenty years or so…I remember my dad had a pair of 205cm GS skis, now they would never fit in the GRY!
GRY with 7ft Christmas tree. Admittedly, I was solo.

Ordered based on one review 🤣 (only 1 or 2 reviews at the time)

£1000 deposit (11th of November I think)

First new car, most expensive (previous highest was £12,000)

A week later the hype built, and built, and built 😵

By the time covid restrictions had lifted and I was allowed a test drive, the waiting time was near a year. 🥲

Honestly that test drive I was laughing my head off, the performance blew me away (it was raining) and it felt refined (for me) and comfortable.

I was SOLD SOLD SOLD haha, and i've enjoyed every moment since then, I love it, just feels so special to me 😍🥰

I should have ordered one without a test drive. I had two choices of test drive, the Saturday, and the Monday, but as I was off... I thought I'll do Monday, it'll be quieter. That Sunday, BoJo announced his secret santa gift, Christmas Present Lockdown. So that one day literally cost me four months before I could do a test drive, I got in it for the first time the first week of April which was the first time I could have driven it.

In retrospect, I should have just stuck the £250 down irrespective. I drove it around first corner and down the road and was like, erm, I'm going to buy this car.

So I put an order in, without mentioning to the missus, got home, told her. Wasn't mad. OK, good, but wanna see the car? We couldn't go back the next week, so it was the following one, and she decides actually she likes the car... but thinks I shouldn't get it in red, so swapped it to Pearl White. So those two little bits of fun cost me about 4 and a half months of extra wait time.

I wonder how many people looked at it or had a test drive and decided not to buy it. I would have thought the hype would have sold it on its own.

There is a phrase, 'don't drive your heroes' and whilst calling a Yaris a hero might seem... insane... after a drive, I think it qualifies, and its hero status wasn't unfairly given.

Given I waited over four months to drive it, arguably longer as I waited the original demonstrator to come in, got on the waitlist and then got denied by lockdowns, my expectations and hype were through the roof... I was expecting to be disappointed in some way, in all honesty.

Today I have seen a black one on the webpage of a dealer in my city. I have asked for a meeting and a test drive. he will respond next days. hopefully i can gat a possibility to drive it for a bit. It's only 40km in so he was very reserved...

Update: unfortunately I can't drive it. It's going to be sold as new as possible. The don't want test drives "ruin the breaking in" of the car. He told me some nasty things about the previous GRY they had on sale. This car was in the shop quite some time because "test drives"... jeez

Soo I took a look at it today and was sitting behind the wheel.

I definitely like the cabin. Small, fitting perfectly. I am on the small side to. Materials great and all. Just the climate control and display seem a little weak. But who cares. Sight is bad, nothing new to me, so it's fine. Seats are indeed high but that helps visibility for 1,7ish people. I can live with that. The black color is okay but doesn't really dress the GRY. All the cool accents over shadowed. I am glad I've ordered a white one.

Big BUT: I was not able to test drive it. He told me I can go for it if I am really want to buy it. But hmm I've already ordered one half a year ago. So I don't wanted to exploit the offer. Maybe that's stupid, but I thought that would be unfair... 🤔
