GR86 Black Toyota Emblem

Yes,

I'm currently having this made. This is just the mock up, so it's just an idea. But it will look like this.
It will be black polished metal, gloss black finish. And then it will backed onto real carbon fibre. And this will replace my front and rear badge, I will then remove the GR logo from the car. I hate the asymmetry. This will fix it for me.

I also wanted to give it the real 86 logo... so stupid that our cars have 86 as Arabic numerals when there is an actual 86 logo.

A similar version of the finished product but for a Lexus made by the same chap.

Wow - you are taking it to a whole new level :)
I was simply looking at blackening the toyota logo somehow. Apparently there is this stuff called Plastidip that I've found on other forums and youtube that people use. Unless ofcourse there is a better way.

You can't plasti-dip these tbh. They are not hollow, they have a poly-laminate finish to them. So you'd just end up with a black oval lol. You could buy silver GT86 badges, which are the same size, and are hollow and then plasti-dip them.

Or just buy a set of black Toyota emblems :) the GT86 facelift is the same size as the GR, identical :)

Just had this video pop up in my YouTube recommended. Not sure why, not sure if it's even an "official" piece of media. But when i watched it, I noticed something and thought of you...

ENHANCE!

no idea if this is a genuine thing, but seems like there might be a "proper" GR86 badge using the original emblem floating around.

From 2.52 in the video.

Cool find tbh.
But I'm still happy with the route I am going, I still dislike the asymmetry.
Funny enough what I actually did was this f irst...
I removed the 86 chrome/plastic arabaic numerals...

And then ordered this:

2 x black chrome ones...
Because I thought about making the GR and then putting this next to it.

However, I changed my mind and said nope to that idea. Now I'm just going to debadge it and have a clean look.
Plus I might put those 2x black chrome badges on the side of the car.
Here (red circle): This is my current battle plan!

I prefer the old emblem, but rumours are they scrapped it when people said it accidentally looked like a swastika if you look it from an angle๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™‚๏ธ

*Squints*

Oh yeah. Maybe. I mean, it's a bit of a stretch but maybe. But only because I was looking for it :D

Have spent the last week looking at what options are available for the toyota emblems, ideally would just want what is there but instead of chrome, black chrome.

Really happy to have debadged the rear so far, think it looks smart:

Edit; better pic

Sorry about potato picture, will have some proper ones shortly.

A bit of info on how hard/easy it was to get the badges off would be appreciated ๐Ÿ‘

My detailers done it so I'm not sure on the exact process they used, I'll definitely ask when I see them next.

But plenty of YouTube videos of it being done, typically light heat gun, and some goo gone or eraser wheel for the residue.

I took the badge off my old car by just slowly pouring hot water from the kettle over it to soften the adhesive, then used a plastic trim tool to gently peel it off. Then just cleaned the residue using a tar remover.

Probably raised some eyebrows with the neighbours, stood over my car with the kettle, but if you make sure not to use all of it, you can then have a cuppa to celebrate a job well done afterwards. Bonus.

It's same as any badge. Use a hair dryer or heatgun to heat up the adhesive, don't get too close to the paint.

Then take fishing wire, and put it behind and use a sawing action remove the badge.

That's it... as simple as that.
